Your Top 10 Bruins - Poster DNA

Bergeron
Marchand
Thornton (I liked him every bit as much as Bergie before the trade. If he had been allowed to play his career out here, I am not sure which would have been my number 1, but he certainly would have passed Marchie.)
Chara
Thomas
Seidenberg
Neely
Bourque
Moog
Boychuck

Edit 1 After further review I do love Thornton but no way he lands ahead of Chara or Thomas on my final list. If he had stayed possibly but not as is. Also Pasta over Boychuck all day and I see room for climb this list as well. I was trying to include some from different eras but we are talking about elite complimentary player vs elite player. Both seem to have good leadership and locker room skills but Pasta’s role in that regard is still growing.

Edit 2 Savard is the name I see now that was a clear miss from the list above. Moog gets pushed but I don’t love that.

My favorites from my life time.

Patrice Bergeron
Marc Savard
Can Neely
David Pastrnak
Ray Bourque
Marco Sturm
Milan Lucic
Shawn Thornton
Sergei Samsonov
Joe Thornton

Went with straight skaters there. The goalies for me were:

Tuukka Rask/Tim Thomas
Byron Dafoe

Bergeron
Marchand
Thornton (I liked him every bit as much as Bergie before the trade. If he had been allowed to play his career out here, I am not sure which would have been my number 1, but he certainly would have passed Marchie.)
Chara
Thomas
Seidenberg
Neely
Bourque
Moog
Boychuck

Moog is a good one I wish I considered. Reggie, too, for that matter.

Neely - got me into hockey at age 4 when I watched him crush someone along the boards, it was a game against Buffalo I want to say but not sure, long ass time ago

Chara

Lucic

Horton

Ference

Seidenberg

Krejci

Marchand

Boychuk

Sobotka

I lost interest in the late 90's post Neely and was too young to have the same kind of passion for it, my parents weren't into hockey enough to make it a house hold staple so it had to come from within. I got deeply back into hockey in 2008 when I went to Umass and started going to live games. Lucky for me it was also right when the Bruin's started to resurge and the rest is history

Chara - Just a giant and such a x factor. He eventually set the identity that I got to watch growing up and obviously the success that followed.

Krejci - Incredible player. His vision and ability to slow down plays. Shout out to the Lucic-Krejci-Horton line.

Marchand - Ive already gushed about him in his farewell thread. Miss you buddy.

Pastrnak - Could very well be the Bruins all time leading goal scorer when his time is done. Also his personality is just so infectious.

Lucic - Loooooooooooooooooch. First Bruins T-shirt with a name on the back (had a few of them cause I wore them out!). He imposed his will every shift and embodied being a Bruin in every sense.

Savard - One of my favorite players. His vision on the ice (especially the power play) was just such a treat to watch. *uck you Matt Cooke.

Kessel - The original "Thrill". The speed and that curl and drag shot using the defending player was electric. Along with the candy cane stick tape job. I remember several kids at the rink having that tape job because of him.

Sturm - Bergys original linemate. Some big-time goals (I will NEVER forget game 6 2008 against the Habs. "Sturm HOLDS, SCORES!!!!!!"). Also that slapshot coming down the wing. Stinks a lot of the success came after his time with the Bs.

Timmy T - The man who never quit on a play. I remember his early days with the Bs and his play being one of the few bright spots in some really bad lineups. I also remember how pissed I was that PC tried to bring in Fernandez because they didnt feel that Timmy wasnt a sure fire #1. I knew he was. He was HIM.

Samsonov - my first favorite player and a lot of it was because he wore my favorite number at the time (see the profile pic lol).

(Special mention to Glen Murray. I caught the end of his career. But man- what a shot Muzz had).

Don McKenney- First favorite as a kid, perennial All Star during the dark ages before Orr
Johnny Bucyk- Red Wings already had their Mr. Hockey so they trade us ours.
Teddy Green- Because "Terrible" Ted wasn't, he was the DNA that evolved into the Big Bad Bruins
Johnny McKenzie- Linseman and Marchand had a slice of "Pie" in "em
Don Marcotte- Cherry said it all. Don Cherry. ''If you were going to send a hockey player to Mars, it would be Marcotte. They could watch Marcotte play and manufacture perfect players. He skates, checks, and gets his share of goals. That's the perfect hockey player.''
Garnet Bailey- Because hockey players are the best people and Ace was the best of all.
Wayne Cashman- Ranks high on all time Bruins in so many categories, but the stories about Cash are Hall of Fame. No one I would rather order Chinese take out from jail with.
Terry O'Reilly- Always gave 110%, never backed down and Coached the team that crushed the "Curse"
Steve Kasper- Everyone remembers he benched Neely, I remember two goals in the Forum against Roy that chased the Ghosts away for good
Tim Thomas- Rode a lot of busses before battling his way to the top. No Cup without the Timmy the Tank.

Marcotte an excellent choice.

Same experience with the lull in caring in a non-hockey family. Thankfully, since then I have indoctrinated my wife, my sister and her Oklahoman husband so my 4 year old won't have the same problem.

This neglects the fact that he refused to go to skating lessons this weekend because its "too hard and not fun without a crate" and then, unrelatedly but just as painfully, told me that he thinks he wants to like the Yankees like mom.

Being the Sap I am I love many. Sorry for all of the sappy stories.

In no order...

Cam Neely. Was so fun to watch. When he fought it wasn't fake. He is a good man who has done a lot for other people. I am lucky enough to say he did something nice for each of my parents. Little things maybe but they meant a lot to my folks.

Derek Sanderson. He was a wild one. l remember the camera on him in the penalty box and having to zoom away as he was flipping someone off. I had a photo of him on my wall in college. A couple of years ago Derek was next to us in the tunnel for some event. Orr was right in front of him. The fans were screaming for Bobby ...I tapped Derek on the shoulder and told him that I had a huge crush on him when I was in college. He said (as the fans were screaming Bobby) "Bless your heart"

Pasta I loved this kid from the moment he stepped on the ice. He has so much positive energy. His game is still growing, and his leadership has been a blast to watch. When he was first here, I remember one of the guys who works behind the bench telling me Pasta spent some of his off days visiting the Children's hospital...and he didn't call the press first. He always gives me and @GahdenRinkRat a smile and pound on the glass when he comes on the ice. We are so lucky to have him.

Looch He is a Bruin. I have many memories. He was so nice that someone who sits near us told everyone I was his aunt. I hate what happened. I was so happy he came back. Looch is a hockey history buff and has a great speaking voice. He would be great doing something with that. I will always love the guy.

Marchy I remember his first few games as a Bruin. I thought "4th liner...lots of energy". By the end of the season, I was like WOW. Brad is fun to watch and listen to up close. He was a very good captain. I loved how he always policed anyone who dared to touch Bergy. When you are at the games you see how good he is. In my MANY years as a Bs fan I have NEVER seen ANY player who gives as much every single shift on the ice. I hope he comes back.

Marc Savard So intense. He was a blast to watch. Such a playmaker. I wish he was an assistant coach for the Bs running the PP. I will always hate Matt Cooke.

Muzz I loved how strong he could be. Parked in front of the net. Also, Muzz was a great leader. He knew how to get the players to work together. He was nice to sign a photo for my Mom. He was a favorite of hers (Dad was born in Nova Scotia). She used to go to a game or two with me until she was 80.

Terry O'Reilly My Dad has ST to the Boston Braves who played at the old Garden. The seats were right next to the penalty box so we saw a lot of Terry when he was on the Braves. When they took the old Garden down they gave Terry the P.box.

Timmy Thomas. When can you say? His play in 2010/ 2011 was nothing short of amazing. He was always awkward with the press and a little different, but he used to talk to us because he sat next to us. I remember the year before the cup he has a hip issue and struggled. Some fans would boo him. I always told him those fans were stupid and not to listen to them. After the cup parade I saw him and his family walking with 3 police. The cops said no autographs. I ran over and said how about a hug....He was looking down and said well no. ...and then he looked up and said "Hey, I know you". He gave me a big bear hug. I thanked him for winning the cup and he said "thank you for cheering me on the year before the cup" It was a special moment for me.

Big Z. He grew on me. I wasn't sure he deserved the "C" when he first came. I liked him pretty quicky. It was fun so see fans come down to the glass for the pre-game skate. All knew he was big but when you actually see him up close it is something else. He would ALWAYS hi five me on his way on the ice and once gave me a stick when he was one of the 3 stars. It was the game where I got into a fight with a drunk. He asked me if I was OK. It was sweet.

There are so many more. the Chief, Juneau, Moog, Norman L, Ray B, Quaider...so many more.

One thing I love about hockey guys is their commitment to the community. They often do stuff and not just once a year. They don't call the press every time they do good stuff.

I know we aren't suppose to use Bobby Orr but he is the reason I am a hockey fan and a Bruins fan. I only got to see him healthy for a couple seasons but all I ever wanted to do after that was play hockey. The greatest player I have ever seen including a lot of Gretzky and Mario. No one has ever come close.

Also honorable mention to John Wensink for making an entire hockey team change the way it played the game in the Minnesota North Stars. After he challenged their bench and nobody (after O'Reilly had pummeled a North Star and no one came to help) the Stars got tougher. Of all the Bruins enforcers over the years Wensink may well have been the scariest. Sadly Cherry would not let him play hockey as there was talent there but he just wanted him to be tough.

O’reilly, Cashman, Jonathan, Markwart, Secord, Wensink, Larson, Neely, Lemelin, Lucic.
Larson seems out of place but he could scrap when angry. Fought a lot as a Red Wing, Bruins got the nicer version. I remember the day he had a shot tipped by the blue line and it flew over our heads in balcony section 73 and whacked the back wall. Besides Chara the hardest shot I have seen and he used it more than Chara did. Always loved Nevin
