We struggle to score now so how are we going to score against significantly better competition with more time to gameplan?

We’re trying to play a game that scores the goals that are harder to gameplan against.

Even if we continue at our current pace we're going to struggle to win playoff series

The plan is to turn that “if” into a reality. Our goals stay close to the same, and we reduce the opponents’ by some thing significant.

Were horrendously inconsistent

Yes, the players don’t like to work as hard as they have to work to make this style consistently effective.

Why is that? If you read, most people are waiting for the playoffs to properly evaluate how his “system”takes hold
Which is why this thread will be pointless. The Leafs will win a bunch of games in a row, many of which will mean nothing in the larger picture, and everyone will forget about the coaching staff. Let's see how they play in April, May and June. That is all that matters.

I see your point. If we are evaluating now, I would say he has benefited from stellar goaltending, but at the same time injuries have had an impact (especially to the bigger bodies)

Berube needs to split Marner/Matthews. That is becoming a real problem.
Ya.. they're pretty pedestrian together here. I think with Matty, he needs someone to drag him into the fight. And that's not Mitch. Noone expects it to be.

This is why you gotta Crosby this shyt. And Penguins it out like when Sid had to play with 2 scrubs on multiple cup runs, as they spread out first Sid, Malkin, Stall - and then Sid, Malkin, Kessel. Sid was riding with Sheary and Guentzel who noone had heard of. He made players out of those guys. Or he had Rust, Prust or some other Busta on his wing.

Basically, Matty needs to drive a line on his own too, with Knies and Domi, or JT. And then rock with Marner and Nylander each driving their own lines - and ain't no 1st, 2nd, 3rd lines - it's just whatever matchups are required for whatever opponent you get. I'm telling yall now, we don't do that - then it's gonna be irrelevant as to what we do. Point blank.

Why so negative? You do understand there were six options to pick from?

With the caveat that it's too soon to tell, I'd say somewhat more good than bad.

Taking into consideration the injuries, the team has been better. How much credit goes to Tre and how much to Berube is uncertain.

I'll hold off on serious opinion until the playoffs.

He has the right idea some the time. Most of the time he coaches like a dope with no accountability or perception of real time reality.

He can't adapt on the fly. Not high hockey IQ

The fact that they beat Edmonton was a miracle. Another 30 seconds and they would have tied it

They do not look like a contender at all.

They looked gassed in the third and Edmonton was all over them

This Leafs group is a little long in the tooth but seems to struggle with conditioning all the time and the work rate Berube's system seems to ask for. Sure they've played more back to backs than other teams, but is this team not properly conditioned to handle a grinding style?

Every thread here is "pointless" other than the GDT's and PGT's. This team and coaching staff will always ultimately be judged on playoff success. But, since, you know, we have the forum, we may as well discuss something.

Either not conditioned (though they seem able come playoff time) or not willing...
