Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

My guy, not everyone wants to move back to where they grew up.

Have you seen Windsor?
…Would you leave Miami for that?
I mean I hate Florida and I think it’s too chaotic.

I’m obviously not a pro hockey player but I’m one of those who would rather play in Detroit or in Canada. Miami isn’t my realm of living style. I’m sure I’m the minority.

We have no idea what Ekblad will do.

It seems like every summer Steve is adding more goalies, like that fixes the shitty D. I honestly get the feeling Steve blames it mostly on the goalies and not the craptacular D he has assembled.
we need a goalie… badly. Cossa isn’t ready. And I actually think TA will be better.

Not saying we don't, but Steve has signed or traded for different goalies I think every offseason he has been here. Maybe it is time to stop the ring a round a goalie he has going on.

And the goalies he does get aren’t that great either. Yzerman might need to surround himself with better staff to help him out.

Ekblad was born in Windsor but didnt grow up right in the city. I have a feeling you havent really seen Windsor and are going off of what you've seen online, but the areas around Windsor are probably some of the nicest places for a rich person to live in Canada.

Belle River is loaded with money, which is where Ekblad actually grew up. Its on the lake, its a short drive from places like Lighthouse cove or Tecumseh. Also places that are absolutely loaded with money, water front access and privacy that he could build a home in. Lots of other NHLers live in the area. The weather is also nicer than the vast majority of Canada excluding BC. Cold also doesnt really bother Canadians after growing up in it their whole lives

He married a girl from his hometown that was a childhood friend. If theyre having kids, you dont see any way that he could want to move home where both sets of grandparents are there to support them while hes on road trips? He can be with his entire family every holiday for the rest of his career?

He'll have his cup or two, get a payday to move close to home, make it way easier on his wife, see his family all the time and join a team thats up and coming. Its not the same as joining the 2019 wings now. People on here always assume they know what athletes would want based on absolutely nothing, this is one of those times.

Or, he's attempting to upgrade a position that he correctly sees as being in the bottom half of the NHL.

If I remember correctly, he had a real revolving door of goalies in TBL as well until they drafted Vasilevskiy and he took over as starter. He kind of did the same with a bunch of retreads, old vets, young dudes looking for a bigger opportunity, etc. (Ellis, Bishop, Nittymaki, Roloson, Nabokov?) there was just a lot of guys always coming and going. Hopefully this is just rotating them around until Cossa/Augstine take over

Did this shill write this so the fans won't be upset about getting more plugs?
Yeah, I don't understand the reason either.

There are zero people calling for Detroit to add half a dozen players in free agency. Land 1-2 guys that upgrade the lineup and fit the timeline. That doesn't take more than $14M.

1 very good add > 2 solid adds >>> do nothing >>> splurge on another buffet of scrubs.

Nothing pissses a free agency ultra off more than a methodical manager like Steve Yzerman. He's always taken a long time to sign is own players who are due big raises. He wants to get the deal right and always prioritizes that over winning the Social Media narrative. If you are going to support the Red Wings, it's probably best to understand Yzerman gives zero f**ks about winning the Social Media narrative.

Collect your receipts and be ready to show them when the time comes.

My dude, I grew up in Detroit proper. I’ve been to Windsor more times than I can remember. Both as a kid and an adult. I remember the days you didn’t need a passport to go across. I remember Windsor before the casino opened. Going over there to buy hockey equipment with my dad because the exchange rate was almost $1.50 CAD to $1.00 USD. Getting shitty as a teenager on Oulette street. Laughing till my face hurt after a stripper at Cheetahs kicked my best friend in the nose on his 19th birthday. I am familiar with Windsor.

Just like any big city there’s nice and bad areas. But there IS a major difference for the mega rich. The privileged, the athletes, etc.

Some here are assuming Ekblad is just a good old boy who misses his family. His salary can buy a ton of plane tickets for them to visit. The only thing we DO know is Ekblad says he lives and bleeds Florida panthers.

I’ve said this over and over, if Detroit plans to sign their RFAs then they have little in cap space left unless they do buy outs or trades.

Just to point of clarity here though:

If were to sign all of our RFAs + Kane as suggested and leaves us with 14M in cap. That also puts us at around 13F, 6D, and 2G. So $14M on 2x effective roster spots. So unless it's Marner's supposed $14M AAV - literally the most expensive contract ever in the history of the NHL, we should be doing alright. This is a mountain out of a mole hill issue with this "We only have $14M omgodz!$!"

And if we really need more dollars, to your point, there's a number of pieces we could dump, buyout, etc. Say we we're magically tops on Marner's list? Neat - 14M, we walk from Kane, as they both play RW and that nets us back 4M to backfill two spots, a Depth D and a Depth F because we would have Raymond/Marner in the top 6. Or we we wanted to add Ekblad at 7M on top of the 14 on Marner, - we pay or move off one of the 20M or so in 2026 expiring contracts and move up a prospect at 900k.

Money is not really our issue here in the least and he have plenty of time to sort it out after the fact considering we can also run up over the cap in signings by 10% in the offseason - so another 9M while we look to move a Tarasenko or Chiarot, etc. that doesn't preclude a Marner + Ekblad 1:2 (we won't be doing that but i'm using that as an extreme cap issue)

I'm as interested in subtractions as much as I am adds. Here's hoping future consideration means San Jose takes Holl (c'mon Grier, you flipped the last D we sent you for 1st). Bounce back candidate or not, I would like to see Tank off the books. It felt like watching Zadina out there; lots of motion and little results. At least Zadina got his shots on net, albeit right in the goalies midsection. We need to have Dandenault come do an incantation on the number 11 or just keep it on the shelf. Zadina cursed it.

Money cant buy plane tickets at thanksgiving, christmas, birthdays etc. It also cant predict when his wife has the flu with kids at home while hes on the road and needs grandma to come over and help out. Maybe letting aging Grandparents actually make it to some games and his kids grow up with their cousins

Its not just missing family, its practical at his age/life situation. I'm not saying hes coming to Detroit for sure, and he very well may re sign in Florida. But to say "would you leave Miami for Detroit" while completing ignoring the circumstances of his family is pretty ridiculous.

Money can buy flights at anytime. Money also buys nannies that can help out when mom is sick with the flu.
