Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

Takes all types in an NHL locker room. He’s perfectly fine a bottom 6 winger and I’m sure he helps keep the room light to offset when Dylan shares passages from his journal on how hard it is being an NHL captain.

I say this as someone who didn't like the comments he made at the end of season press conference, the relentless Larkin bashing is getting weird at this point.

Fair enough, I respect your viewpoint so I will stop. I’ll just say that I don’t have any problem with guys like Berger who are chill and fun, even when the team isn’t where we want it to be, This idea you have to be constantly down and miserable because your team is rebuilding seems massively unhealthy, but whatever.

To be clear I have no problem with Berggren being goofy in that video.

They took clips from what was likely hours of video. And the sections seemed from the loosest part of practice. As long as he's listening to coaches and working hard, I don't think he needs to be as humorless as Nathan Mackinnon.

Do the Wings have any interest in moving Copp or Compher? Devils have a use for some center depth and some size would be a bonus. The depth this past year was horrendous for the Devils.

Devils likely explore moving Hamilton this off-season. Odds are whatever deal they do will be dollar in dollar out. I wonder if they will take on an overpriced 2/3C like Copp in a package deal for Hamilton to upgrade the depth.

They may also explore moving Palat and/or Haula. Not sure there would be a ton of interest swapping either one of them for Copp or Compher though

Id like to keep Copp. I don't mind both players but also, having both has been really redundant.

Hamilton would be of interest to me, especially in a Hockey Trade type of deal. I don't love his injury history but I guess in a lot of ways, he would be less available without it.

Honestly; I think a deal could be made around something about what you're talking about here. Idk how exactly it's look but the names seem right to get a deal done. (Compher/Copp/Hamitlon)

Rossi for #13?

Straight up for 13? Sure. MN would never do it though and Rossi isn't really a cure for our center problems. If MN is moving on, it is because they have concluded that he doesn't really work as a center I suspect. I am not sure we would reach a different conclusion.

With Kasper showing he can be a legit 2C if not more the need for an immediate C is less. If Rossi plays wing here I’m more than fine with that.

He's got 3 years left which I think settles in nicely for the Wings. They could choose to bridge Ed on a short term to keep money in the D reasonable. My question is can he play the off side? Even if we keep ASP in GR for a year, I don't see us slow rolling him more than a year. Not the end of the world to roll out 3 good RHD but it still doesn't address our need for a Top pairing LD.

Also pro keeping Copp and moving Compher. Copp at least adds a defensive/faceoff presence that we need. Compher is signed for longer and I think Kasper has taken over his responsibilities.

Would rather he was a better player.
Exactly.
The same people cry all year because of team being bad, but when players aren't serious and don't perform its not on them apparently. That's when we chose to defend them I guess.

It's like Brad Pitt is saying in Moneyball. Is losing fun? Is it all jokes and music, goofing around etc.
Not saying you shouldn't do that now and then, but the whole video was joking around.

When's the last time this team has played a playoff game?

If it's not obvious by now, not sure what's gonna convince you.
It doesn't matter. You just want to get to the playoffs to get to the playoffs.

I want to get to the playoffs when they have pieces ready to compete with a better team.
I want them to keep building a team that will compete for many years for a cup.

You want four games of playoff hockey and you are happy.

I would definitely have a bit of a preference for Copp personally, especially with the shorter contract. He feels like the perfect fit as 3C and maybe some center duties with Hughes-Bratt.

Given Keefe’s affection for Holl during his time in Toronto, I could see Copp/Compher + Holl + pick making some sense here. Would be nearly dollar in dollar out for both teams.

I would probably hope Hamilton returns something a little bit better, but I wouldn’t hate that return to fill needs for the Devils. It would be selling low though, but Devils may need to do that given how bad the center depth was this year.

There seems to be a short-term gap in the Top 6 at LW. Assuming we keep Kasper at 2C (I'm betting that Danielson stays in the AHL to start the year), our top six:

Left Wing - Larkin - Raymond
Debrincat - Kasper - Kane

Now at some point, MBN will be penciled in (in two years or so?), probably around the time that Kane is rolling out of the lineup for good. I'm not counting on Buch, Finnie, or Kiskinen to hit that high in ceiling (although I won't be upset if they do).

To start the year, that leaves the immediate term plugs:

Tarasenko
Soderblom
Danielson
Mazur

Longer term? - I think we have it covered if/when MBN, Danielson, and potentially how Mazur/Lombadi/Buch/Finnie etc. all shake out

But for the next two years, is there someone out there that can either plug into a top six LW role in the mold of a Bertuzzi, Oshie, etc. - or is there someone acquirable to slot into that 2C role between Cat and Kane, to let Kasper run up to the top line. That seems like a pretty big question that doesn't seem to have an immediate answer on the table

I would be too, which is why I would move him for 13 with the expectation he plays wing (and can flex into center short-term if need be).

I don't, however, understand why there is noise about MN moving on from him.

I think I wrote about this in the off-season because I was confused then that they were looking to move off from him even then. The long and the short of it - unsure where the origin of these rumors came from, but it seems like "they" - as in the front office + coach(?) - do not like the way Rossi plays. Specifically, there is concern about making an long term commitment to him at the dollar amount his market value would command (6M+ for long term) given that he is small by MN standards, doesn't play physically, doesn't fit stylistically, etc.

Yeah, I don't know why the Wild would want to trade him (instead of just moving him to wing). But I'd be thrilled to send 13 overall for a good young player like Rossi. That's exactly (one of) the type of addition Detroit needs.
