Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

I will say this, yzerman might not care for the media and the post season presser might be a nothing burger, might I don’t like how long it’s taking. The fans deserve answers, they deserve acknowledgment for being frustrated. That’s one thing I don’t like about this FO is they seem offended that people are upset about expectations and the teams performance. Like yes Steve, you have a lot of answers to give, this is the longest stretch of no playoffs in the franchise history, do you expect to just get softball questions your entire tenure?

Do they? Wanting does not = deserving.

what kind of answers all you want? do you want him to publicly acknowledge that we suck and it will continue for a while? this is the only thing he can tell now. and it is obvious for anyone watching and following the Red Wings.

we'll likely be relevant again by the year 2035. up until that time you still need to buy tickets and subscriptions :) just like, eg Islanders fans buying it for the last 30 years.

Some accountability would be a nice thing to hear for a lot of us.

Ya that and some expectations. Yzerman never has any expectations publicly so he is never really putting his money where his mouth is. There is absolutely 0 reason this team shouldn’t be in the playoffs. He’s had long enough to stockpile and be patient. Nobody is asking for a cup contender next year they are asking to literally be average to slightly above average, it shouldn’t be that much to ask

I'd argue he's set expectations.. you just don't like them.

Why is Steve hiding?
He's working.

I too hope he's pretty blunt and honest whenever he does his PC, but I thought he was pretty clear in December when he literally said "we should be competing for a playoff birth and we're not so I'm firing the coach."

They want either a public self-flagellation and/or a Baghdad Bob "everything is rosy" press conference. No matter what is said or not said, they won't be happy so it doesn't really matter.

If you don’t think the fans of an original 6 team deserve answers after a decade of no playoffs, then go be a fan of a different team. Maybe the blue jackets are more your type of franchise you should follow where there are no expectations. What a weird comment.
There is a vast difference between expectations and a pointless dog and pony show.

Why shouldn’t he want that in Detroit shouldn’t everyone? Hello it’s been 9 freaking years that’s more than enough time to become a legit contender let alone accomplish a playoff appearance. I guess torganization has become a losing culture because we are mad that a guy is passionate about actually wanting to win.
Oh I agree. Larkin has every right to be frustrated. But without rehashing it, the Wings didn’t get those top picks so rebuilding was always going to take more time. I wish that Yzerman hadn’t made the FA signings he did the last three seasons and let the team possibly finish worse. That was the time to continue shooting for those type of picks.

But as it stands, Yzerman is betting on his first rounders are enough to get a cup. I think they need a major trade or star FA signing to get there though. Time will tell.

Bang on. People want to be mad at him, so they want him to say something so they can pick it apart and be mad. You can tell by the tone of their posts.

I mean that’s a two way street. Do they want butts in seats? They sure care about fans’ money and attendance.

The GM isn’t accountable to the fans of course, but showing them some consideration goes a long way.
The vast majority of fans that pay to attend games pay no attention to this kind of shit. They don't scour the web for news stories of prospective prospects, they don't review the drafting success by region, they don't post on online message boards. They go to games, get ripped off via parking and concessions, and have a good time (or less good if the team loses).

You'd want to fire a GM who has hit one home run after another in the first round of the draft, just because he doesn't care about doing press conferences? I get flack for criticizing his awful last couple of trade deadlines - actual roster impacting decisions - and the hill you'd die on is talking to the press?

Or do you mean the possibility that he doesn't care about Larkin's comments as much as some of the people on these boards?
If Lucas Raymond stopped doing post-game interviews because ”he doesn’t feel like it” and ”nothing of value is said anyway” I’d want him traded. It’s part of the job. Can’t suck it up for 1 hour every few months? Don’t do the job.
Which is why I think the delay having to do with Yzerman simply not being that into doing media is a tinfoil hat conspiracy theory.

He's working.
He’s said multiple times that he can’t give expectations, the most he has said is compete to be in the wild card mix, that’s not very definitive. At some point there has to be some accountability, he’s had long enough

It shouldn't be. Wanting to know something doesn't mean you deserve to know it.

I mean.. he’s going to do a PC. What anyone ”deserves” is irrelevant. You can either imagine a different world, or live in this one and simply acknowledge that it’s a bit strange that there’s such a delay.

Personally I couldn’r care less if he comes out and says ”no comment” on every question. However, that would only make it even weirder why he didn’t do it a week ago.

I'm more referring to the player post-games. It's such a weird thing. Guy is hopped up on adrenaline/endorphins and either elated or pissed and then a gaggle of dipshits ask really stupid questions designed to garner a specific quotation for an article they've already written. It's performative nonsense to appease the terminally curious.

He said he can't give timelines which is different from expectations.

He's preached patience, which sets an expectation of focusing on the long term.

He's fired a coach over poor results which sets the expectation that the team needs to improve. He straight up said, they didn't live up to his expectations during his Press conference after firing Lalonde.

Again, he's set expectations, you just don't like them.
