Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

Can someone explain why Justin Holl is in the lineup over :

#4 Antti Tuomisto

#5 Eemil Viro

#8 Shai Buium

#20 Anton Johansson

#22 William Wallinder

I don't get it?

I don't follow prospects but if I had to guess it's that Yzerman would rather they be playing bigger minutes in the AHL than playing very limited and protected minutes in the NHL.

Now that the Wings are officially eliminated that thinking my change, but I doubt it.

I have to believe the ice temp in Florida is about the same as it is in MI. I mean unless I was higher than I thought during school.

Not sure where you read he can't skate, but his TOI indicates he doesn't need double runners. He's also a 2x all star.

More of a joke that some players like to play in warm climates for muscle recovery/soreness. I bet the ice is just as cool in Florida.

I haven't watched a ton of Ekblad but the few games I have seen the last few years he didn't seem to be the most fleet of foot. I am also not a scout so what do I know.

Sad even though I fully expected it. We need MAJOR roster changes this summer.

If we were giving up primarily futures I'd be more on board with taking a chance on EP. Something like a couple of 1sts, Lombardi, and some mid-level roster guy. The sort of deal you see when teams are dumping a guy and rebuilding. I don't want to give up Kasper, Danielson, ASP, or MBN, though. Or Buch, really.

With how so many of our prospects developed this year, I'm more interested in seeing them in Detroit than taking a home run swing on a guy like EP. Especially since I think if wait a year, the price will quite possibly be more of a futures package than a "help us now" package.
We are exactly on the same page. That is what I would offer as well, especially that us with EP, is a better version of us that likely leads to lower picks in the 1st round anyways.

With Fla, Tor, TB, Ott, and MTL it will be tough to make the playoffs next year too.
I really feel montreal won't be as good next year. So many of their games this year were lucky wins after getting outplayed and outshot lots. The league will also figure lane Hudson out a bit too. Sens also won lots of games in the 2nd half because of goaltending. So if Stevie makes some needed moves I think we will be fine.

Take that stupid patch off.

Agreed.

Though it’s an advertisement. Let’s call that abomination what it is.

If I had more time and photoshop skills I’d take the most iconic photos of Red Wings greats and paste that trash ad on the Winged Wheel sweater in all of them. To drive home just how awful it is.

People should take Priority trash stickers to LCA and slap them on the faces of all the former wings players.

Can someone explain why Justin Holl is in the lineup over :
#4 Antti Tuomisto - Honestly he probably is another Justin Holl. Doesn't do anything particularly exceptional. His supposed standout trait (his shot) has gotten him 3 goals this season. He scored 5 last year in less games
#5 Eemil Viro - Prone to extremely boneheaded giveaways in his own zone regularly, and not a known generator of offense. If he's in our lineup we should be tanking for 1st overall
#8 Shai Buium - Skating needs to massively improve. Prone to making very lazy plays with the puck
#20 Anton Johansson - Literally just recently landed in NA, greatly struggled defensively right away
#22 William Wallinder - Really struggle to pin what kind of role he plays in the NHL. He's not good enough at passing nor does he have the vision. Defensively still not solid enough, regularly enough

I don't get it?
Justin Holl sucks, but we haven't had a defenseman in GR that's warranted a lengthy callup over him. We would be complaining the same amount, and probably more tbh. They're just not ready.

ASP for example? Much different beast than any of these guys

Adding Pellikka could now do a favor somebody else to join the NHL roster.

Agreed. We can win with him but need a lot more talent to support.
Larkin's winning a cup during his prime with the DRWs window went out the door with Bertuzzi...I am sure SY explained very clearly how the rebuild is expected to unfold, he was likely given the choice of leaving at that time or stick around for the grind.

He stayed and will be around SY's age when the wings are serious year-in year-out cup contenders, I watched the older versions of this movie more than a few times, for this one, SY is the producer of the show.

The team only gets one first round pick every year, all of those contracts will expire by the time those kids are ready. It also takes 19 years to replace a team with only first round picks, and NHL careers don't last that long.
I think we’ll probably draft another good center before Larkin retires.

I have not read that so can't argue one way or the other. However, the no state tax status is a huge benefit or players. I also suppose the warm weather and beaches is an attraction. More net pay, more hot women. I am 28 single and a multimillionaire. I don't want to call it a no brainer, but it's moving in that direction.

Do you think Kasper or Danielson will push out Larkin? Maybe when he ages, but isn’t prime Larkin.

Kasper is clearly ahead of ND today, but these two will be a 1-2 center punch that will be tough to beat in a few years.

Specific response to your question, yes, Kasper will push out Larkin. What needs to occur? He needs to become much better in the face-off circle. Not often discussed, but Larkin may have developed this part of his game more than any other aspect since joining the NHL. When? Looking at the last 20 games, I am not so sure he doesn't get a shot at the spot in the 2nd half of next season. When the games get tough, Larkin is hard to find. I have no doubt this will be another Dylan was playing hurt post season presser.

Depth "could" be our biggest strength eventually. Right now it's just a hope of that. There no guarantee that always these prospect develop properly. Outside of ASP our defense prospects are proof of that. Paying 14 million for a perimeter winger with a really good shit isn't a good idea.
Add Bennett, convince Kane to come back, add a PK specialist forward. Replace the bottom pairing defense and call it a day.
Personally I would dump almost half the roster but that isn't going to happen.
Depth means we have a lot of them but none are very good.

So you want to miss the playoffs again, got it
making the playoffs with a team that has no shot really has no point. See red wings hockey 2010 to 2016

get in and anything can happen simply translates as good being the enemy of great
