Your Rebuild Opinion? Next Move Coming?

It larkin was a leaf his aav b 9.5 at least.

I do think if they pay the marner 15x7 price tag I doubt our core players will be taking team friendly deals from that point on.

I don’t know. Isn’t the point of convincing these guys to sign value contracts to ensure there is “more to go around”? I’d think they’d be pumped to see that money go to a guy like Marner.

That’s how id feel anyway. I’d rather see “my discount money” help us land a top talent like Marner than an upgrade for the 3rd line or another Petry/Holl.

If I’m giving up some money, go get a stud.

I mean, there's a pretty big difference from Marner to Tarasenko and Gus. There's lots of guys better than those 2. There's less guys better than Marner.

Just not ready to pencil Marner in and pick his Wing linemates. The odds are very slim.

It's understandable to want what you want. I just don't see it.

First thing should be sending Holl and Tarasenko to the minors. Holl likely reports and Tarasenko almost certainly would terminate his contract to sign elsewhere/go back to the KHL, that's almost 6m in cap opened up. With the cap going up we probably won't even really need to clear cap space, so I don't think its really worth a buyout, but I could definetely see them buying out Holl.

Need to sign or trade for at least two D capable of playing top 4, so we can either pair Ed/Mo or have a solid partner for each. I think using our 1st this year, which is likely 11-13th in a weak draft, to try and shop for a young top 4 defender should be on the table.

Forwards they need at least one top 6 guy, and maybe a top 9 guy, but they have quite a few prospects who could potentially play third line (Danielson, Lombardi, Mazur, MBN).

Idk if it's just the kids. It's the whole situation and the family imo is a big part.

His role as a PP specialist isn't terrible with a 3rd line role. He's being forced to do a little more right now. We haven't even seen how he'd hold up yet in a physical playoff series.
All that definitely can go a very long way in him staying here.

I think his play this year (especially since McClellan) has been more than adequate of a top 6F. Add his PP ability and he is still a legit top 6 guy imo. If your top 6 wingers are Raymond,Cat,Marner,Kane I think you are doing very well

This is actually a concern of mine. Yzerman not wanting to pay someone more than Larkin, his own internal player cap.

Yeah I would re-sign Kane. They wouldn't be redundant because Marner can play defense. Honestly Marner would be the best defensive forward on the team.
I know people just act like he’s an all offense guy and will hurt the team, the guy gets Selke votes. He not only helps us 5v5 and on PP but he would also be our best PK guy and god knows that needs to get a hell of a lot better

It's hard for me to comprehend that Tarasenko will just give back the 4.75M, but I guess one can dream.
You think he would actually go ride the bus down in the AHL at this point in his career after already making more than enough to retire? If he wants money some KHL teams would definitely offer him at least a couple mill due to his name recognition, and with lower taxes he would basically lose out on nothing.

I think if you're already signed, you can tell yourself that. "I was happy to be paid $7 mil before and now I have a $14 mil FA star to play with."

But if you're up for a new contract, then it becomes "you were willing to pay this to get Marner. You should be willing to pay that to keep me." On top of that, we know that these GMs like to sell the "our best player/captain makes $9 mil or got 9% of the cap so that's the most you can get." It's these little bits of rhetoric that shave an extra mil or two off of a contract.

I'd still sign Marner though. I'm okay with giving up some long term cap implications to add a superstar forward to our talent deprives core.

Just let the Yzerplan take its course we might get 3 more players from our drafts on the team next year that can significantly move the dial. Especially if Cossa can adjust to the bigs.

So don’t add a legit top 6/top 4 D in FA or trade?

So much garbage on the roster the PRIORITY patch is apropos.

This is all on Yzerman, not Holland.

UFA: Kane, Smith Motte, Petry

Only Kane will be offered a deal, BUT ... well I hope he sticks around so I will leave him on the roster.

RFA: Soderbloom, Bergrenn and Johansson. Elmer stays. The other two.... MEH.

I would give Rasmussen away, under 1 condition, they take Tarasenko with him. Literally, a future considerations trade.

Holl will be waived and then sent to GR because not even Priority has a dumpster big enough to hold this piece of trash.

Gustafsson is one level above Holl and should be a future consideration opportunity.

Signings:

Color me stupid, but I would sign Austin Watson and put him on the 4th line.

OK top shelf UFAs:

Marner - Love to have him, but this team needs so many pieces I doubt he comes to Detroit. I am going to say he is OUT (with a caveat at the end).

Sam Bennett - This team needs a center. He is the one I go after. $4.4M this year. I'd give him 6.5x4

Brock Boeser - He is at $6.6M. I cant see anyone going higher than that. The Wings should offer a front loaded, shorter term deal, say 3 years, with makes him free agent again at 31.

Aaron Ekblad - 29, roided out right handed shooting D man.... SING HIM UP! Hell, this guy should be the #1 target! Neal Poink is the consultation prize on D.

If the above occurs with Bennett and Ekblad, the Wings need to make a hard play for Marner. How? They trade Larkin.

Raymond - Bennett - Marner
Kane - Kasper - Cat
MBN- Compher - Soderblom
Watson - Copp - xxx

Mo- Ekblad
Edvinsson-Chiarot
AJo - ASP
Wallinder

xxx = Not going to be able to get rid of all of them. Ras or Burger will be around. Mazur will be around for a good 20 games or so until he breaks. AS a 4th line winger it is likely Ras because he brings perceived physicality.

OK back to my Whistle Pig Beyond Bonded Farmstock Rye (Jaster getting into the ryes of late. Check this one out)

Wallinder for Howard?
Was hoping to send wallinder to the blues for Lukas Fischer incase expansion occurs in 26-27 we’d have an extra Dman we wouldn’t have to risk losing.

If issac Howard is threatening to leave can it really cost much? Can’t we send one of our 2 3rds? I’d have to go check what teams previously paid for a player who was in his last ncaa year about to be a free agent

Tampa would have zero leverage if he says my buddy trey is in Detroit , so trade me there or I go next summer

Capwage is projecting $9 million for 7 years for Boeser and $6 miliion for 6 years for Bennett.

This team desperately needs the snarl of guy like Bennett, but siignings like these won't come easy or withough significant risk.

The chances of Marner getting to free agency and somehow choosing Detroit over 30 other destinations to spend his life in are pretty slim, if we're using mathematics here.
I give the same odds that we had of landing Stamkos in 2016 and the same outcome

Your D pairs are awful. Seider and ekblad both shoot right. Ed and chiarot both shoot left. Why is chiarot even in your top 4 in that situation? No way does poor ed get stuck playing with that pylon over asp. Ed makes everyone he plays with look better so stick asp with him and let him cook.
