I totally understand what you are saying. I feel Danielson is producing close to the same AHL rate as Kasper. It was recognized that the talent level of a high level prospect developing in the NHL is better than a veteran plug even though Kasper was not dominating the AHL. I am just hoping this is also the case for Danielson.

I am not meaning this as a rule I just think there is strong consideration here. At the very least maybe he gets the 9 game cup of coffee

Little more nuanced, I voted bottom six role&PK'er but this was assuming Red Wings are competing.

If Red Wings are not competing and he's not in a big role I don't like him in the NHL next year. More minutes in the AHL would make sense to me.

I was a very strong believer in #teamkasper but I'll be the first to say I did not know or really see Danielson. What I've read and seen about him since is many of the same things that made me a staunch believer in Kasper: he's tough, he's smart, great skating, he's defensively responsible, he's used in all situations, there are times when he shows off a lot of offense acumen and skill but it's inconsistent (more on that in a second).

Danielson, and Kasper, and to some extent Raymond and MBN- follow a very explicit role that the Wings are trying to acquire. So much so that we all kind of guess at the 1st rd picks now that they are going to chose.

Danielson's skating, intelligence, work ethic, and defensive commitment will make him an NHL center. I don't think there's any real question about that. What remains to be seen here is the offensive output. At his floor, he's a shutdown 3C, which we could definitely use one of those. Now his offense remains a question of is he not that good offensively or is it because he's not prioritizing it because of the role he's playing etc. The later is more of a case of Kasper and Raymond, the former is Rasmussen.

I think he should be in GR. I want to see him play big minutes in all situations. He's not getting that in Detroit

Funny how things play out, last year Kasper had ceiling of a second line center with source of offense not being clear. Danielson scored gazillion points in the WHL and everyone was drooling. Now everybody was a Kasper supporter from day one and Danielson, despite still being junior eligible and putting up 0,5 ppg in his first pro season while being the primary defensive matchup is in doubt. Let’s talk again when Kasper has a sophomore slump and Danielson has a great season

I don't have a preference we'll how he does at training camp. There are going to be a bunch of good young forwards fighting for NHL spots he'll have to outplay them.

MBN
Lombardi
Mazur
Danielson
Koskinen
Finne
Maybe even Buchelnikov

All will be trying to win a job at camp.

This sounds like Frk vs. Pulkkinen a decade ago. Either had hot seasons, when other had cold one, then vise versa. And both... busted.

Hope this time both guys will pan out well. :)

I hope GR changes their system up a bit this year. The team leader having 47 points has got to be evidence that they weren't playing offensively enough. Maybe that would help Danielson be a little more productive.
If a coach had a better system to run, they would be running it.

If you want a better system in GR, then you should be asking for a coaching change.

Or some better veterans to insulate the young player.

Or some combination of the two.

Danielson, while having a decent shot, is much more of a standard playmaking center. If you want to see him put up numbers he'll need to be with finishers. I am fine with trying him as our 3rd line center as long as we actually play him with some offensive guys. I don't want him in a purely shutdown role, because he is comfortable there and I want to see him pushed offensively. I always felt this somewhat held Flip back in that Babs really utilized him in a D role and his offensive game lagged at the NHL level. Totally game to add Danielson to our PK unit as we obviously struggled there last year.

I am also fine starting him in GR as long as we also have guys like MBN, Ammo, Buch, Finnie, Koskinen down there or legit offensive AHL players. (I feel like we need an AHL vet overhaul in GR). I think him being the #1 center and go to guy offensively would not be a bad thing for him.

If he comes to camp and plays like he did 2 camps ago, I'd like to see him on the team, but if other young guys outplay him at camp then I'm ok with him being in GR.

We just need ideally at least 2 rookie forwards on this team. Likely Mazur plus one of Danielson, MBN, Buch, or Ammo. I just don't want to see guys that are legitimately NHL ready stuck learning bad habits in GR because we once again signed too many vets. You aren't going to have 5 rookie forwards at once so you need to plan to spread that out a bit over the next two seasons. Mazur, Danielson, MBN, Buch, and Ammo are really at most 1 season away.

If we don't acquire a bonafide top line player in the offseason, I'm inclined to run the below as our top 6.

DeBrincat - Larkin - Danielson/MBN (pick one and/or rotate with 3rd line)
Berggren - Kasper - Raymond (Berggren and Kasper have mojo and we may as well utilize Berggren's offense)
The norrisnick - Berggren experience:

Hopefully neither slump and they both take major steps. f*** the one or the other bullshit. We need them both to hit. Like desperately bad.

We need better vets in Grand Rapids. I hope Horcoff has better plans there. I like Watson but can do with a changing of the guard on the rest of what is down there.

I think getting Chris Terry back for instance would be a smart move, played in GR for a couple of seasons and provides big veteran offense at that level. Should be available July 1, put him in for a sizable AHL salary.
