Both Datsyuk and Zetterberg started on the third line behind 2 solid and super 4th line. Id rather see Danielson playing less minutes , but in NHL.

Not a good comparison at all. Datsyuk joined a loaded HOF team, so 3rd line was all that was left for him. Z joined one year later on still a very good team. Danielson is nowhere near Pav or Z territory right now.

Situation will never be exactly. My point was about Both guys were not playing in AHL , instead, they were learning from the best. No reason for Lombardi or Danielson stay longer down

Somewhere in the Top 9 of the big club is what I am hoping for. He does, however, need to have a big offseason. He is strong enough off of the puck that I don't think he will be a liability if we drop him onto the big roster next year.

I say this as someone who is not expecting a big, big summer in free agency or the trade market.

I'm inclined to wait and see how he does in preseason as a C, but I like starting him as a top 6 RW in Detroit

I'm of the belief that he needs to start playing with NHL players to see what we got in him. AHL is too "crabs in the bucket" for me and he spent all last season there anyway

I want him on Larkin's wing.

Just like when Larkin played on Z's wing to start his career.

Also think it'll just be a great line, Raymond and Larkin gets a puck retriever and someone who can chip in defensively.

If we don't acquire a bonafide top line player in the offseason, I'm inclined to run the below as our top 6.

DeBrincat - Larkin - Danielson/MBN (pick one and/or rotate with 3rd line)
Berggren - Kasper - Raymond (Berggren and Kasper have mojo and we may as well utilize Berggren's offense)

Do you think he'll score enough to be a 1st line winger? I quite like the idea of having Larkin, Kasper, Copp and Danielson as our centers. That would be remarkable depth and they are all legit centers, not wingers masquerading as centers.

Danielson playing 4th or even 3rd line minutes kinda goes against the typical method Yzerman preaches.

Man would much rather play you 1st line minutes in the AHL than 4th line in the NHL. Although they did break this rule for Kasper.

Again, our center depth with Larkin, Kasper, Danielson and Copp would be absurd. If he wants to win, and this is Stevie f***in' Yzerman we are talking about, I think there's a good chance him and McLellan decide that Nate plays in Detroit this season.

I'm under the impression that Watson can't teach scoring. Highest scoring player only had 47 points last season, and the season before that Burger was the only player with more than 37 points. You can't ripen fruit in a garbage bin, it just rots. Bring the kid up, but definitely not the 4th line.

I say play the guys who show the best in the preseason. There should be a bout 8-9 spots up for grabs. Nobody outside the best 15 guys or so should be guaranteed a spot.

This teamhad too many black holes last year. There are a lot of guys knocking on the door. If I were Yzerman, I'd make it clear to everyone that you better come in hungry, if not you won't be here long.

Who starts the season in the NHL will be by

1. Detroit landing FA stars. If a Marner or another big name lands, the bottom six gets much better. Current bottom six guys likely moved, bought out, or waived for cap space. I'd like Danielson as a 3C and penalty killer. MBN and Mazur as cheap wings would fit too. Same situation on defense. Adding a top 4 guy increases the chance other vets are gone.

2. Cossa. He needs to clearly be the guy in preseason. Don't give the team the option of holding him back anymore.

3. With the cap going up, this is the year to move bad deals. Guys like Copp, Compfer, Rasmussen, Tarasenko have some value to teams that miss on the big guys and want to add depth for a run this year.

Ideally Steve lands Marner, a solid defenseman, an is able to free some money from the bottom of this team.

I thought the same too. This past season, starting from their own end, I regularly noticed a lack of effective first passes out of the defensive zone and it seemed like he didn't want the defense to be active, leaving the forwards alone a lot of the time

Team played too passive in transition and it reminded me a bit of Newsy's system

Quite a pipe dreaming thread.

Everyone expects Danielson to be too high on the roster and JT Compher to disappear.

I expect JT Compher play on Danielson's position. And he will have a better season again, just like 2023-24 was. So Danielson will start from the Griffins.

Also expect this team getting better players overall, to have better team depth than last year. Danielson's time will most probably come at 2026-27 season, when there's more open roster slots.

well, teams do like to run similar systems in the minors as they run in the pros. Be interesting to see if GR's system changes this year to match McLellan's a bit.

We have a new coach who prioritizes sound defensive play. I guess it depends on whether you still view Danielson as a scoring line center, or if his career trajectory to this point leads you to believe he's going to be a really good defensive forward? The Connor Bedard quote mentioned by Red Wings brass gives you some insight into what they valued about Danielson as a prospect.

Can Danielson beat out whatever assortment of garbage we have at 4C? F**k yeah he can. And with time in the NHL, he could pull a Kapser and knock Copp down to 4C. Why would we acquire a 3C or 4C in free agency that will cost more than ND's ELC? We've got 3 years of Nate @ $890k. LFG.
