Your Opinion - Fix the Rangers

Yes you are right the easiest . Who would bring the biggest return

Who would leave the biggest hole? Staal and Girardi. Easily. You don't move players like them. At all. Unless they won't re-sign. They are the heart and soul of the Rangers. Neither make a ton of money and both play 22-25+ minutes a night. Both are home-grown and love being Rangers. They block shots, hit, play in all situations.

I'm all for looking to move Richards/Gaborik at the conclusion of this season. I'm far from ready to blow the entire team up like some suggestions. We are an injury riddled team playing poorly. How unique.

Trading away Richards, Gaborik, Del Zotto, Girardi etc. really destroys any chance this team has of recovering and pulling something from this season. It's still young.

I agree with you, but since the Rangers won't suck enough to get a top draft pick one of the best ways to stock the system is to trade for very good young players. Stock-pile young players, draft picks, etc.

Unless the player they are signing has the physical tools to dominate I no longer want any part of them.

Gomez
Drury
Redden
Rozsival to lesser extent
Richards

None of them were able to physically dominate and impose their will. Gaborik is a hybrid as he will show up for game and then disappear again.

I'm fine with trading for good young players. It's the expensive FA's that I don't want. If we can turn Gaborik into some younger, cheaper assets with upside, I'm fine with that. However, we have to be realistic about where that's likely going to put our team in terms of cup chances.

I dunno, I'm kind of going around in circles in my head and with my posts, haha.

I agree, and I am okay with that. If it means solidifying the future of this team for 10 years I do it. Look at what LA gave up for Richards. Schenn + Simmonds +. That is the return I would expect for Richards. Burns returned Coyle + 1st. Carter returned J. Johnson + 1st. That is the type of return I would be okay with for Gaborik.

I'm all for keeping them but if you line for top tough young cheap talent you gotta give to get .
CK/ FASTH / CT / MSC / HAGS AND LATER Boo are all skill / speed players . Outside if JT none of our top prospects are exceptionally tough . CK has size but so far no much a power forward . Girardi might bring in that next Kassian , Ladd , Kesler hybrid player who can play with skill and not be pushed around . Once again have to give to get and I love G but let's say McIlrath is his right hand err apparent in the top 4 and we can sell G high wouldn't that be better in long term .

You need defensemen as well as forwards. The Rangers have (1) right handed top-4 defenseman. His name is Iron Man, err, I mean Dan Girardi

The issue is that Mike Richards wasn't trending downward in the way that Brad Richards is, and he was/is considerably younger. All of the players listed are younger. That's going to play a big role.

Personally, I think Richards is bought out. The possibility of the cap hit coming back to haunt us is too dangerous to roll the dice on.

I know that but what NYR have as marketable assets are
Gaborik
One of our stud D men ( doubt any one moves McD so either MDZ / Staal or G )
Boyle for a lesser player maybe at the deadline a 2nd ( if extremely desperate likely a B prospect / player or a 3 rd ) .
I also would want back a D man in one if deals not just a forward and that D man doesn't necessarily have to be a PMD but have a lethal shot

this does not appear to be a good grind it out team. Open up the style of play on offense, get some physical d-men that can rip the puck on the power play. This team expends way to much energy with very little to show for it. I put the bulk of the blame on torts for not playing to the strengths of his players. Most boring games in years.

Philly got very good value for Richards and Carter. One young roster and a top prospect(#1 pick from Columbus) plus 2nd/3rd round picks. They shed the contracts and don't have to worry about cap recapture because both of those players were traded before the current CBA began.

Vancouver? Kassian and Tanev? 1st round pick? One minute it looks VAN won the Kassian trade. Then it looks Buffalo won the Hodgson trade.

Jordan Staal brought back Sutter,#1 pick(Pouliot) and Domoulin. Staal was entering group III but he was signing with Carolina. Should have taken Trouba.

the only players you trade is Gab or Richards

I am all for moving Gabs for a proven young player ala Jeff Carter trade
proven young player, mid/high prospect and 1st or 2nd pick

Hank

Staal
Girardi
MDZ
MCD

Stepan
Miller
Kreider
Callahan
Hagelin
Nash

all core guys we shouldn't or even consider trading unless we're getting Crosby type player back

Unless we are somehow getting a Crosby type player for Stepan straight up, even that wouldn't happen. I'd don't think I'd care much to see the New York Rick Nash's play every other night.

I don't see McDonagh on your list

he would be first on my list after Hank.

^That and why the hell is McD not on that list?!

my mistake, I added him and hank of course, but until we cant afford them contract wise or as long as their under contract no way I trade any of them, unless its something ridiculous coming back, which was what i meant by that..

We under valued Dubi, AA, Prust the most, but Feds, Mitchell we're great compliments for their roles..

However I think as time goes on well get more of an idea of how this team will operate and how we move forward in the future..

I would only trade Gaborik not because we're struggling but only if we could get great pieces moving forward that can build to our core. I like Gaborik, but I want someone thats more then speed and shot, but more physical and engaged (just my opinion, other then that He's been great and by far our best UFA signing under sather. Also part of the solution not the problem since he's been here).. I guess I miss Dubi and Prust the most, wish we kept and signed them..

Been saying for a while, whether it is by force of will, physical gift, level of skill, combination, team must dominate to not just win but advance for cup.

Careful, if you keep starting to sound like me, I'm not sure I can protect you from my detractors.........:naughty::D:laugh::laugh:

Only way we get very good young players in trade is to trade one or two of our established youngish players . I mentioned this before and was crucified . I don't want to trade one of Staal / Girardi / Gaborik as much as anyone but they are the players teams on verge of cup will want lets be real

:amazed::amazed:
What, another one, two in a row! :amazed: Agreeing with what I've been saying for over a year now!!:D :D

hey, detractors:p:

Please repeat after me: there are no sacred cows.
Whether I move someone depends upon the return...

Also: I will not be afraid to go back two steps to get ahead five.

You're absolutely correct, except we'd get players in return for Gabby.

True, but it's not going to be someone who is going to make an impact like Gaborik right now. We'll get a couple role players or some great potential futures. Gotta think about Hank and the team's window. It' always good to build for the future but I'd make top priority getting a winning roster in front of the best goalie in a long while while he's still in top form.

I'd do that for anyone on the team, but Lundqvist.

I think Lundqvist alone can get us those picks. As much as I like McD, I think Columbus would want us to throw in someone else. Plus, I think Columbus is in dire need of a goalie.
