Yes you are right the easiest . Who would bring the biggest return
I agree with you, but since the Rangers won't suck enough to get a top draft pick one of the best ways to stock the system is to trade for very good young players. Stock-pile young players, draft picks, etc.
Unless the player they are signing has the physical tools to dominate I no longer want any part of them.
Gomez
Drury
Redden
Rozsival to lesser extent
Richards
None of them were able to physically dominate and impose their will. Gaborik is a hybrid as he will show up for game and then disappear again.
I'm fine with trading for good young players. It's the expensive FA's that I don't want. If we can turn Gaborik into some younger, cheaper assets with upside, I'm fine with that. However, we have to be realistic about where that's likely going to put our team in terms of cup chances.
I dunno, I'm kind of going around in circles in my head and with my posts, haha.
I'm all for keeping them but if you line for top tough young cheap talent you gotta give to get .
CK/ FASTH / CT / MSC / HAGS AND LATER Boo are all skill / speed players . Outside if JT none of our top prospects are exceptionally tough . CK has size but so far no much a power forward . Girardi might bring in that next Kassian , Ladd , Kesler hybrid player who can play with skill and not be pushed around . Once again have to give to get and I love G but let's say McIlrath is his right hand err apparent in the top 4 and we can sell G high wouldn't that be better in long term .
I agree, and I am okay with that. If it means solidifying the future of this team for 10 years I do it. Look at what LA gave up for Richards. Schenn + Simmonds +. That is the return I would expect for Richards. Burns returned Coyle + 1st. Carter returned J. Johnson + 1st. That is the type of return I would be okay with for Gaborik.
the only players you trade is Gab or Richards
I am all for moving Gabs for a proven young player ala Jeff Carter trade
proven young player, mid/high prospect and 1st or 2nd pick
Staal
Girardi
MDZ
Stepan
Miller
Kreider
Callahan
Hagelin
Nash
all core guys we shouldn't or even consider trading unless we're getting Crosby type player back

^That and why the hell is McD not on that list?!
I would like to state for the record that I am not freaking out.
Thank you, your honor.

Only way we get very good young players in trade is to trade one or two of our established youngish players . I mentioned this before and was crucified . I don't want to trade one of Staal / Girardi / Gaborik as much as anyone but they are the players teams on verge of cup will want lets be real
I'm all for looking to move Richards/Gaborik at the conclusion of this season. I'm far from ready to blow the entire team up like some suggestions. We are an injury riddled team playing poorly. How unique.
Trading away Richards, Gaborik, Del Zotto, Girardi etc. really destroys any chance this team has of recovering and pulling something from this season. It's still young.
You're absolutely correct, except we'd get players in return for Gabby.
Lundqvist for all of Columbus' 1sts and a 1st in 2014?
I'd do that for anyone on the team, but Lundqvist.
I think Lundqvist alone can get us those picks. As much as I like McD, I think Columbus would want us to throw in someone else. Plus, I think Columbus is in dire need of a goalie.
