Vanaceck plays a great game and he still gets somewhat picked apart in here. I don't get some of our fans. The guy is signed for 2 more years after this one at 3.4 million. He gets paid like 1B goalie and 32-10-4 this year ! Schmid does have a better SV% and GAA but he has played alot less games and is 8-5-2. I wonder how are goaltending would of held up this year if we ran Blackwood and Bernier as our 2 goalies. Next season you gotta think its going to be Vanaceck and Schmid as our 2 goalies and that's really a great thing because they both are good and they both will be a bargain when it comes to the cap. Yeah Vanaceck isn't an elite goalie but you don't always need one to win a Stanley Cup. Darcy Kuemper had terrible stats last year and he has a cup ring to show for it.

He had a pretty pretty bad like 6 weeks there but he's been good again recently.

Lots of Ranger fans hanging their hat on that performance last night. Idk why.

They were outskated into the dirt every damn period. Shesterkin had 4 pucks sitting in the blue paint where he was fortunate it did not go in. Devils hit a pipe as well. We also had 4 2 on 1s we did not convert on and the Tatar play after he put Schneider on his ass. Their only goal was unearned as we f***ed up on it. As others mentioned, it was their 5th worse analytic game on the season.

Clearly their 5v5 defense is gonna magically flip a switch on April 17.

I'm not sure I agree here, Carolina was better than us in the game that Vanecek got a shut out in and the game we won back in January when Kotchekov gave up 3 bad goals in that game. Sure you can say that their goaltending is a massive downfall but who's to say they don't get the finishing they were lacking in some of those games too against us? The Rangers don't scare me as much as they have a top flight goalie, the defense is utterly atrocious. Miller has regressed since being hot in his January stretch and Trouba is literally a pylon as shown by last night. Most Rangers fans don't even think Lindgren will be back as I was looking over their post game thread and think he sustained an injury when he came back to the spot he already hurt so that's another minus on their roster. Not to mention, Fox has looked like utter dogshit since being paired with Mikkola. Carolina is a far worse matchup than the Rangers for us than NYR, I don't really care about the superstar argument much either.

I really don't think the Canes were better than us in the recent game. They controlled quantity sure but we did a better job of controlling quality and we were up by at least 2 for basically the whole game and 3 for nearly 2 periods. The Canes were playing from behind the whole time and they couldn't even manage to muster anything dangerous up. Canes will do their Canes thing but I don't have much faith in their offense actually pulling it off and we're more than good enough to give them an even series when it comes to driving play.

Over the past month we've had at least 60% xG (some much higher) in almost all of our games against contenders. Did it to the Avs, Knights, Leafs, all Lightning games (rounded for one but it's 59.72), Rangers. It is fair to point out the one game we didn't do it was the Canes game which was 53.76%. I never once felt like we were in any danger though. Even the games we did win against the other contenders and dominated play far more than we did against the Canes were a lot more scary because they were legitimately threatening when they had the puck. The Canes are not threatening offensively. I simply don't think the Canes have the firepower to be all that scary. Our xG% the past month leads the league at 60.67%. The one thing the Canes have over most teams is their ability to dominate games possession wise. We're good enough to at the very least match them there and we have the better talent. Sure they can beat us but I like how we matchup very well.

I really like how we matchup skater wise against the Rangers as well but Igor is good enough to basically singlehandedly win a series and Fox/Panarin/Zibanejad/Kane/Tarasenko/Kreider is good enough to give him the minimal support he might need.

If the finishing doesn't turn around I do not feel good about our chances against the Rangers. On the other hand I think even with lackluster finishing we have a decent chance against the Canes. I think it's a tossup at that point. Play could be split 50/50 and neither team can be relied upon to score.

If the finishing does turn around then I really don't think this is all that difficult of a road to the ECF. It's the only true concern I have with this team.

A lot of them saying it was just the 1st and then they were fine the 2nd and 3rd. We were better in the 2nd and 3rd as well lol. That game would've gotten ugly fast if not for Igor and it's not like the Rangers managed to create great chances in the 2nd/3rd.

Their fans are so funny - they have another gear or two that they can hit while acting like the Devils played their best game last night. Delusion.

Also, I legit thought that Kakko was a scratch last night until late in the 2nd period. Dude is invisible.
There is more copium going on in the Ranger's thread than the Russians on twitter.

One could argue that the Devils managed to soundly beat the Rangers again while still not even playing up to their potential. Of course, I wouldn't say such a thing because it sounds absurd.

Kane looked slow and really soft on the puck.

Taresenko at least had a very good back check on one play.

Miller was good for them. Didn't notice Trouba outside of a few flying elbow attempts.

Schneider was pillowly soft along the boards and on the puck which seems to happen every time we play them.

If you told me Laffy and Kakko didn't dress I would believe you

They were better than the Devils in that March 12th game, all 3 goals that Kotchekov gave up were stoppable. 2 of them went 5 hole and one of them was a giveaway behind the net that Hughes pounced on. Vanecek made some A+ saves too, he robbed Aho point blank. They had a few 2 on 1's that they didn't even hit the net. Then not forgetting the January game in Carolina.I'm just saying that they're worse for us because they legit can skate with us every shift due to their system, same shit applies to the Islanders. I don't see the Rangers veterans and kid line being able to skate with NJD 60 mins a game in a 7 game series. The other two won't be from a lack of trying but skill comes into play. The former is a lot harder team to play, the Islanders have shown that when they've made the playoffs. Also Brindamour is the best coach we can possibly play out of those 3 teams, he's miles better than Gallant and Lambert will be a rookie HC in the pressure he hasn't seen before. Granted Lambert was an assistant on those Isles teams with Trotz.

they were also able to break up several 2-1 attempts i was at the game.. rangers 5 on 5 were not dangerous for most part outside of a few panarin plays.... i still think our system gives too much up to the points...

devils had that game under control from start to finish... shesterkin made many underatted saves.. Vani def had a few good ones.. but devils could have been up 4-0 in the first... rangers are not tight defensively.. we can beat them in a series.. if we stay out of the penalty box... i would prefer to get the islanders or pens in round 1 though. many new playoff guys maybe not playing rangers out of gate will take some pressure off.

Oh the copium on the Rangers board is just so incredible. Their fans were nothing but fired up going into the game about marking their territory and tying us.

Now?

“Oh it’s meaningless. The Rangers are just conserving their energy for the games that really matter.”

And it just goes on and on. I want them more than I’ve ever wanted them. I’ll take the division crown of course but my god I want to beat them.

I'm going to refer to Graves as 90's man from here on out.

His hair is the most 90's thing I've seen in a while.

He looks like a character from some 90's movie. Or just like many random dudes back in the 90's lol.

I feel like there was a basketball player that looked like him back in the 90's? I can't think of who it was.

They also think we only showed up for the first period despite us winning the xGF handily in all 3.

The third period was the only one that was remotely close and we still doubled their scoring chances. Not sure what game they were watching.
Not even. Majority of Rags fans said they played a bad 1st and had a slow start.
Ummmm. Maybe , just maybe , it was us playing a good 1st period insteas of making the excuse that they started slow….
