This is probably the loudest I've ever heard the push back on him this year.

Alex said flat out to waive him during the game lol

Natural stat trick has it at

90.03 nj to 90.34 Carolina
I think that's too high for us? Is that just a 5 on 5?

We don't have a goalie here with above a .900%, but at least the two kids (who don't get the rope Vitek has gotten, at least Schmid didn't, they were letting Daws play for a while last month over Vitek though) are in the .890s and neither has played even half the games Vitek has.

Oops forgot to hit the submit button after the all situations selection

It’s
88.09 NJ to 88.29 Carolina

What is also intriguing

Nj has allowed 30 low danger chances goals
Carolina has allowed 15

A handful of things can be true:

1. Fitz bears responsibility for not acting sooner on Ruff / Goalie.

2. Fitz got us here and deserve a lot of rope given the young core.

3. 23-24 is probably a lost season and trying to double down on an outside playoff chance is a mismanagement of assets.

4. I’ll be in Raleigh cheering on this team Saturday.
My advice is too drink heavily to the point you forget your watching the New Jersey Devils.

Punting on the season is a lot easier to swallow when there are also so many things outside of our control going wrong. Injuries, both number of games lost and quality of player lost. The rookie defensemen were going to have to take their medicine eventually. The other thing.

But that does not excuse the things we can control going wrong. Fitz isn’t an idiot, he sees the same things we see. Ruff will not be back, they built an out into his first deal because they didn’t trust him, and they built an out into his second deal because they STILL didn’t trust him after the best season in franchise history. We will get another goalie, that’s not even a discussion. Our top-end talent is good but our depth really got exposed this year, especially on the backend.

The long term outlook is still great, even if the short term really sucks.
The depth is fine. The teams injuries were a problem, the biggest issue has been goaltending. Punting the season when they’re right there for a playoff spot when it could be salvaged by making needed moves is not easy to swallow. And yes Tom is a f***ing moron especially if it sees it how you write it up.
And also the rookie dman aren’t the problem. It’s been the vets, another area Tom should have addressed a month ago.

This is a massive failure of a year thanks to him.

He’s a bad gm.

It'll be too late by the deadline.

It may be too late now.
Yep, seven points out and haven't been consistent enough all year to maintain anything close to the streak they'll need to save them now

Vitek, coaching and all of these dumbass no-shows against cream of the crap teams are the three biggest reasons this team's going to miss the playoffs and Fitz enabled the first two by being Mr. Do-nothing. Just like Joe Douglas, his patience was a virtue, till it wasn't.

"Timely offense" in this case is just a deflective way of describing that this team gives up too many goals too easily and quickly. The Flames tied the game two f***ing minutes after the Devils went up 1-0. You wanted them to get the 2-0 lead within that time span? Does that sound reasonable?

Well it could have been 2-1 or 3-1 even.

We are not getting the goals when we need them to preserve momentum. Just look at the gift PP we got with whatever time left to tie it and did nothing with it. Same with the other chances throughout the game when we had chance to either tie or build a swing lead.

Anyway. I am not at all saying goaltending or defense is less of a problem. Those ARE the key problems. I agree with Jim though that we aren't burying high quality chances as we should in those key moments.

Of course if Vitek wasn't the worse goalie in the league in this game we would easily win this. He sunk the game. But we could have still won this one with a bit better usage of momentum building moments to build a lead of larger size.

Lastly please ease up on your tone on my post quotes. I don't come and jump all over your posts constantly, you are singling/lashing at me out here recently and I got no beef with you. And I don't believe my position is that unreasonable here.

“He just spins around and somehow beats Vitek down low” LOL at Dano’s commentary on that fourth goal.

He somehow beats him? Like it’s at all shocking?

It wouldn’t even be somehow shocking if somebody somehow scored all the way into his guarded net in Newark on a hole in one from the Haworth country club.

I'm not trying to single you out - I am singling out posts critical of the offense and it just so happens you are one of a very few posters doing it.

I just don't think such an expecation is realistic. There's gonna be games when the team isn't able to bury great chances. They're already burying goals at a top five clip in the league - you're essentially demanding they do that every single game. It's misplaced, especially given that they sit literally in the basement in GA.

Hilarious. Good for him for laughing. I have no empathy for this player anymore.

Even the opponents are LAUGHING at this guy. And they have Dan Vladar in net to shoot on during practice, who is pretty nearly as bad.

And they’re STILL laughing at us over this embarrassment.

I remember saying back in November how excited the Rangers were to be getting Vitek that night instead of the goalie that went 4-1 with a .951% and 2 shutouts last April.

One disappointing season doesn't make Tom Fitzgerald a bad GM. Lindy Ruff isn't even a bad coach. Just IMO not the right coach to take this team forward and the same with Vitek as our starter. He's been basically shot for almost a calander year. Chico was defending Vitek tonight. Then I got home and had the game on T.V. The turd of the 2nd Calgary goal happens. Wonder what Chico had to day about that one. I love you chico!

I agree with everything BUT 3. This team has been hanging around a playoff spot for some time now with the goaltending being the #1 problem.

Fitz is watching the same BS that we are. It's his job to fix it.

Didn't Vegas go through 78 goalies last year? Do something!!
Agree with this. One of the things that i admired about when Yzerman was GM of Tampa is that he spent 3 draft picks to acquire Anders Lindback as his new starting goalie. And during that first season with Lindback in goalie, he realized quite quickly that Lindback wasn't very good and then traded for Ben Bishop who was Ottawa's 3rd goalie at the time. Bishop provided stability to the position and eventually became a quality starter.

I wish Fitz was a bit more proactive like Yzerman is.

Yeah the only thing you can really get on the offense for (besides the now-rancid PP) is where are OUR quick starts to games? We never f***ing have any.

And why didn't ruff take an effing timeout when the PP1 unit was on the ice for about 1 minutes 30 of PP time. In key end game PP opportunity.

Nope. We roll fast and then give PP2 20 seconds to do little. I have no problem doubling up PP1, but then take the fkin time out to rest them for the extended play.

We really need a 'Timeout...what is that?' type of meme

But there is some serious game management issues here for me.

1) Vitek’s biggest flaw is confidence. The guy makes stops but don’t let him get scored on, not even once.

2)Its not just V. This team sulks so hard. Let’s not forget, Jacks wild penalties at the begging of the year.

3) Lindy calls a timeout with 30 seconds left down 5-3.

Fitz has been acquiring a new goalie each year since he started with the exception of last year since they actually got reliable goaltending for once. He unfortunately needs to get one now, at least a stop gap since he doesnt have a single playable goalie and then another this summer. Don’t envy the guy at all.

Pending tonight’s results, particularly to Georgiev, Vitek may have hit the league high or at least tied it with most goals I’ve counted stoppable this year.

Georgiev’s 34 was the highest I have, which also doesn’t include his game tonight.

I don’t think Vitek has the highest percentage, but he’s gotta be up there.

I don’t keep track of the goalie’s actual goals against number, since everybody else already does it anyway for me. So I have to divide my number by their number of goals against to figure out the percentages.
