Captain and the Gang - LGD!
Daws did not impress. Not sure we should be keeping trying him. Rather go with Allen one more year.
If Jake Allen wants to come back and he is happy to sign for league minimum, i'll bring him back next season to backup Marky.
Daws is fine as a number 3 goalie. Yes, he will go through waivers next season but I think it will be low risk that he will actually get claimed. He didnt have a good year in Utica. Maybe that not all his fault given Utica team was trash.
They're all just placeholders for our Russian behemoth anyway.Daws did not impress. Not sure we should be keeping trying him. Rather go with Allen one more year.
ok.... it's time
They said on one of the nationally televised games a while back that he was back in Michigan. He may be in Michigan until training camp.No Jack for the jerseys off their back? It’s been a month or so some proof of life would be nice.
I agree its risky but I think it may be necessary (not just Daws but any younger option at backup)I think it’s possible he can be fine next year in the NHL, but it’s too risky IMO. It’s a gamble. It could be a losing one if it doesn’t work out.
But if ir does work out it will free up cap.
Daws has come up and played good as well...Definitely inconsistent play...Not against resigning Allen but he will get a decent contract and if they waive Daws he will get claimed....I think he can be a suitable backup but it's a risk no doubt...Markstrom being inconsistent and a year older makes it riskier as Allen did steady the goaltending for a few stretches this year...I think u have to roll with Daws if Allen wants too much money and term...If Jake Allen wants to come back and he is happy to sign for league minimum, i'll bring him back next season to backup Marky.

Don't know if it was posted here earlier, but Dougie didn't look that great. Not that it was expected he would, but it made me wonder how healthy that knee is.
He did have two nice shots, i'd say that just missed. But outside of that, he looked like he was going through the motions. Probably by design (to play at reduced level to test it out, but I started to wonder if we should wait a game or two to bring him back.

Thought he was actually one of the better players last night. Just a step behind maybe but thats expectedDon't know if it was posted here earlier, but Dougie didn't look that great. Not that it was expected he would, but it made me wonder how healthy that knee is.

His skating appeared smooth and his speed appeared normal. He appeared to engage physically with opponents in a normal way. He jumped up into the neutral zone breakout when warranted. He skated lower in the offensive zone when given space.
It didn’t appear to me that physically he was held back by anything.
His issues came from handling pucks and shooting timing, two things I expect to happen after a long layoff.

At least they went out on a high note. Scoring two goals, that's pretty darn good
I don’t think so either.Nico Daws sucks. Aint it and never will be
I don’t think so either.
I haven’t thought so for a while. Wouldn’t be surprised if Schmid winds up being the better goalie of the two, but his AHL numbers will keep him from getting an NHL job full time, unless he lucks into one via injury. Which is kind of how he got the spot with us in 22-23.
Daws is a backup in the NHL at best and that’s the ceiling. Shouldn’t be the expectation. He’s fine depth.
We’re probably screwed if he’s the backup next year. Then there’s no depth behind him. I don’t think he’d be taken off of waivers, but I wouldn’t bet a whole lot on it.
I didn’t even think we were that bad last night, the quality of goals Daws let in were bad. And the stinker when we cut it to 3-2 with under 3 minutes left was horrible.
In my case it's not based on this game at all, it's based on his AHL game (3.16 GAA, 0.893 SV%) as well as the previous years. I just haven't seen enough consistency yet to feel confident with him in net as a backup. The fact he has been good on limited calls up doesn't mean much, we saw with Shakira, sorry, Akira, how that worked out.The Daws discourse I’m seeing online seems weird.
Maybe Daws is never an NHL goalie but his play in the NHL this year was limited and great.
It just feels like part of a bad symptom of online fandom; the need for over the top criticism about every bad performance and extrapolating that bad performance out forever.
