He's always injured. We have injury prone stars in Dougie and Hughes. I much rather them go in another direction.
He wouldn’t be a star. Just hopefully someone who can chip in and give us the play Allen has this year.

Or we can just re-sign Allen for something reasonable.

A read a list of UFA goaltenders and Allen will be in demand. Unless its team friendly contact, cross fingers for Daws.

Hopefully we can try to get him to agree to a deal before UFA.

Daws smells like that could come back to bite. I honestly think some of you who want Daws are enamored by his 3 NHL games this year.

His almost 50 prior to this year and AHL resume is nothing special.

Even Blackwood had more of a run before he was given the full time spot in 2019.

Actually, the Blackwood 2019 resume was similar to the 2023 Schmid run, only Schmid got into playoff games. We didn’t make the playoffs in Blackwood’s rookie year.

I wouldn't say I'm enamored. Guy's likely ceiling is a fringe starter. A fringe starter is fine if you expect Markstrom to play the majority of games.

Daws hasn’t really shown much that he can be that….. it’s a gamble.

I think if you’re saying he is you’re basing it off this season. And by this season I mean his NHL play.

Not his below mediocre AHL play this season.

We just tried the “younger backup with the hopes he can be the starter” a couple years ago with Schmid. And he showed a lot more than Daws ever has at the NHL level, yet he was a flop.
Schmid still looks elite when he gets hot. Yes, elite. Obviously has no consistency still and maybe never will, but he has now shown flashes with multiple orgs. Watch the 2 recent games with the Knights....horrific AHL #s though....goalies remain a fickle bunch.

I honestly think he might end up being better than Daws career wise.

But his weak AHL numbers might keep him from ever becoming a regular in the NHL and cause him to go to Europe for the rest of his career.

The only thing that will make Daws a regular next year is cap reasons.
