Watching the highlights, I still think the team played a pretty good game last night.
It was okay. Most of the problem was the team essentially went 1 for 4 on the PK and 0 for 3 or 4 on the PP.

Killed one penalty, technically killed another but the goal was scored seconds after it expired and play had never left our end n the meantime. And got scored on during the other two.

I see what you are saying but a loss is a loss...Tired of saying yeah we will take that effort most nights we will win when many of these games we have lost....Since that break its like a box of chocolates with this team you never know what you are going to get ....frustrating team this year especially the second half....
I don't disagree that this team's inconsistency has been very frustrating since the Holiday break. But I do feel like the team has played fine hockey overall since the trade deadline, yesterday included. I have 0 expectations in regards to the playoffs, but I think they could surprise some people. I wouldn't bet on it though.

To me, it's pretty simple. Need to fix the bottom-6.

Agree but we should expect them to compete and bring it every night....We can beat the Canes if they play smart fast and physical...Fix the bottom six agree but the attitude or approach in that room has to get more consistent next year as well....

the playoff spot has been set for like 4 months with little opportunity to go up or down (is this true? I'm just guessing). Wins are nice but they're also nearly meaningless right now. The lack of "effort" stems from a lack of incentive and that's Bettman's fault first and foremost. I'm sure they're working on structure and starting to prep for the Hurricanes but nothing's more important than getting to round 1 healthy.

One thing that I think almost everyone here will agree on is that I don't think we necessarily need to just fix the bottom 6, as much as we need to also push some guys who were playing in the top 6 down to the bottom 6 or get rid of them altogether.

I'm mostly talking about Palat here, as Haula didn't really much top 6 time this season and if he did it was during injuries.

Getting rid of one of Palat or Haula would be awesome, while planting whatever one we keep in the bottom 6. Haula on the 4th line ideally if he's still here.

And I know I'm really in video game mode here, but I'd love to sign Dumo for 2 years @ $3 million per if we didn't have Dillon here for 2 more years @ $4 million per.

They regressed from Christmas

Words that can be used are slithering, lumbering, backing in

But sneaking in? Just not a logical term to use when they clinched with 5 games to go and held a Metro playoff spot the entire season

They stayed in a playoff spot the whole season and yet will have the least amount of points of all playoff teams.

How do you make sense of this?

The people bitching about the effort last night would be the same people who would be yelling about how stupid it would be to break a foot blocking a shot or the like

We’re swatting away concerns about effort with less than a week left of the season? Is there an effort switch that gets turned on during Game 1? We lost a game to the lowly Bruins and the directionless Penguins this week. It will always be about effort.

The Bruins game was bad, this game was very much a “shit happens in hockey” type of game. We mostly were let down by our lack of discipline and PK. Those are correctable things.

We’re locked into a playoff spot and locked into our seeding/matchup. Effort is the last thing I’m questioning when we still have 3 games left before the series. I want them to play smart, sound hockey and to stay healthy.

They won enough games early on to make a nice cushion and the other teams below us in our division are flat out no good.

Who cares how we made it. This team has made it out of the 1st round only 4x since we won the 2003 cup and have only been in the playoffs now for the 3rd time since the 2012 final.

I don't give two f***s how they got in, I'm just happy to be in. Even more so when you account for the major injuries this team endured.

Just enjoy the ride, we could be watching some of those absolute dog shit teams from 2013-2022 instead.

Some just prefer to always have a complaint. There will be half the fanbases in the league wishing they were in the spot that we’re in by next week.

Just get through these last three games as cleanly as possible. Play the structured way that you’ve been successful with and we should be just fine in preparing for the playoffs to start.

They didn't clinch. They had to rely on other teams sucking more than then and losing as opposed to them winning their spot.

They've been dog shit and one of the worst teams in a playoff spot since Jan.
Jan: 5-5-3
Feb 3-4-0
March 8-7-1
April 1-2-0 so far.

This is atrocious hockey and most of it with a healthy lineup.

It's not atrocious but it certainly isn't good. They earned their playoff spot though, whether you agree or not. It helps other teams regressed like the Rags and Isles but none of them had to battle through the signifanct injuries the Devils did.
