They also split in 2022/2023 with Carolina and got absolutely f***ing rocked in the teeth when the team was better x100. I'm sorry it hurts you to hear that other teams are better than the Devils.

Carolina was clearly the better team in that playoff series, but the Devils were also coming off their first playoff series win in more than a decade in a grueling 7 game emotional series against their biggest rival. The NHL also didn't do us any favors by scheduling game 1 in Carolina less than 48 hours after the Rangers series ended.

Carolina will rightfully be favorites again this series, but I expect the outcome to be a bit closer this time around.

I don't really know or care what 2 seasons ago has to do with anything

They probably are better than the Devils right now, yea. That doesn't mean that the playoff series is 100000% set in stone like you made it seem.

Try not to be so emotional all the time man. There is good hockey discussion that happens here. We don't need this nonsense.

The poster said he'd like our chances v Carolina with a healthy lineup when I pointed out that this Devils's worst opponent is Carolina even when we are healthy, maybe once again read before you start random arguments and then tell other posters good hockey discussion happens when you almost derail every thread with Mr. We are the World positive attitude with everything Devils related. And lol yeah man, I'm sure you don't see the correlation with a better Devils team getting rocked v a Devils team that has looked lost since December v its worst opponent stylistically.

13-12 Carolina in 4 games this season.

"Devils worst opponent"

how do I even debate this ironclad logic?

I do believe if you get in anything can happen. Carolina doesn't worry me anymore than any other team. The team that worries me is the Devils themselves. They haven't proven to be a threat on any level but there's a minuscule chance they could catch lightning in a bottle. If Allen/Markstrom get hot and the opposition isn't up to snuff, who knows?

2 games they won Markstrom wasn't a sieve which LOL @ if you think that's happening in a playoff series with how's he played lately. But hey man, you think the Devils are the best thing since sliced bread so have at it

I haven't said anything positive about the Devils whatsoever. I am calling out the hypocrisy of you posting in absolutes. You have absolutely no idea how Markstrom will play 3-4 weeks from now. Maybe he is fully healed by then and his injury doesn't bother him anymore? Hell, maybe Allen starts?

Not to mention, the Canes goaltending isn't exactly a brick wall back there.

there are so many different outcomes that "THEY ARE GOING TO GET ROCKED, PERIOD!" is a ridiculous statement. LIke I said, if you TRULY believe that, why even watch the games? It comes off as "I am a sucker for punishment"

I know I’ve sarcastically asked this before but now I’m seriously thinking that a couple of posters here really do work for the team’s public relations department. Even the most hardcore fan wouldn’t be going to bat this hard for a team whose results are on par with the Sharks for three months.

LOL at the bolded

And who said I was or wasn't? Very weird you're telling other posters what to do in regards to their fandom to their team but I don't expect anything less from you I guess with how you act on this board. I've said multiple times that whoever gets the third Metro seed is going to get destroyed by Carolina, the idea you can just throw out how they've played v Carolina the past few years and how depleted they are and think they'll make it a series is beyond me. There's virtually nothing that points to the Hurricanes not destroying the team that's Metro 3 come mid April.

okay cool, then don't watch? I'm not sure what you want people to say to that.

otherwise stop parroting the same thing over and over and over.

Sure, maybe the Devils win one more game there in that series but the result was never changing. Carolina is/will always be this team's boogeyman for how they play and how RBA coaches them. The only saving grace was the goaltending and Markstrom has been utter dogshit since returning and I don't have any confidence in Allen being able to stop the onslaught similar to what happened to Kinkaid in 2018 v TB. Andersen would need to implode or the Devils get random injury luck and Siegs/Hamliton return for that series mid way or something.

YOU are the one that jumped in to attack a poster for rightfully pointing out that the devils season turned after losing to the same team that they are now going to face in the playoffs, if they even make it. YOU are the one making it seem like it’s some kind of huge leap to say that a team with one of the worst records in the league for three months is likely gonna get ass pounded by an objectively much better team who also happens to be a rival that clowned us just a couple of seasons ago.

You just can’t help yourself from jumping in to police people’s Perfectly reasonable opinions and fandom.

You DESERVE better, my friend!!

Are you just acting dumb or what? The 5-2 loss in Carolina in December was when this team started to have an utter tail spin in the season. Even the game they won, Markstrom stole from them which was one of his best games of the year and that's coming from me who consistently rakes Markstrom over the coals. You said you'd like our chances against them fully healthy when this team's boogeyman has been Carolina for the past 3-5 years when healthy, stop trying to twist the argument.
More stuff you’ve made up. That was an evenly played game, 55% xGs in our favor, in fact.

And yes, I would like our chances against Carolina if healthy. Are you under the impression that would’ve been a 70-30 series or something like that? It might not even be that now after everything that has transpired.

Dillon seems ok on a third pair. He doesn’t look as bad to me as Smith.
With all due respect to @Bleedred , Brendan Smith may have been the worst defenseman in the entire NHL when he played for us. He made mind-boggling mistakes EVERY game. I could not stand that guy. I’m not saying Dillon has been amazing but he’s decent enough for the third pair.

i don't think it's alarmist to say we're going to get our shit rocked by carolina (if we even make it in). i mean is there anybody here that would put $1000 on us winning that series?

i would actually be ok with a couple of seasons of making the playoffs and losing in the first round- as long as we were building on something. unfortunately, that's not the case- we're limping into the playoffs and we'll probably get destroyed.

One game they got all world goaltending versus Carolina and the other game they got average goaltending as is the story with Carolina the past 5 years, the latter which has been the norm in Carolina/Devils games. And lmao, you're right, it's closer to 90-10% Carolina now.

It isn’t particularly hard to see how this team could’ve turned into a tough out with a couple things going right at the same time. Like for example, Timo Meier getting hot (which you obviously concerned trolled about and will pretend you didn’t) while Bratt picks up his scoring combined with Jack doing what he does could’ve had the team looking much better. Instead, lots else went wrong to offset that.

But of course, they were going to continue losing every one goal game in the fashion that they did. Glass providing a stabilizing force to the bottom of the lineup instead of being asked to be a key producer could’ve lengthened the lineup. But no, the great seer guitarguyvic, in his infinite wisdom, knew none of this would come to pass. It was obvious they’d lose their franchise center, top offensive D, top shutdown D, and starting goalie. You’d have to be paid by the team to think that stuff matters — just look at their record with those guys!

regardless whatever happens in the series it will be very telling how this team handles the playoffs if they no show it and mail it in or can actually try and compete and grind out a couple of wins to make it interesting. they have the talent at minimum to win 2 games.

Lol, literally posting the glitched out deserve to win or meter. Obviously completely wrong.

You fundamentally don’t understand the sport and the level of randomness involved if you think any series is even close to 90-10.

So you gave the Capitals more than a 10% chance last year beating NYR that ended in a laughable sweep? Please stop with the utter foolishness that you post daily.

And also, that game was virtually even and the Devils still had to rely on a godly Markstrom to win that game, the same way how Carolina gets knocked of the playoffs in their core's history. Show the following night where the results were virtually even again and the Devils didn't get HOF goaltending. The Devils haven't gotten goaltending from the shiny turd in over 2 months but that should just magically just occur when the calendar shifts to mid April.

Not yet he doesn’t.

But there’s two more years left of that deal and at $4 million per. Smith’s deal was for about a million a year.

He’s also only a little over a year younger than Smith is right now.
