Honestly, the game tying goal was borderline, I wouldn’t nail Markstrom on it, only because it was tipped before it fell under him, but definitely borderline.

Still, he’s allowed fifteen 3rd period goals since returning. Keefe refuses to acknowledge he’s not the best option in net.

We just need to win the next 2... Or 3 and we will be fine. OOT IS PLAYING OUT SORT OF IN A NET POSITIVE, kind of.

It is just so mind numbingly stupid that it's been dragged out this long, to be honest. We've dropped 5 almost real points for nothing.

Win the next game, follow it up with another win, or at least come back and beat the Rags.

They're kind of all in the "these guys would be great additions if they were 3 years younger" category. Although Markstrom and Pesce at least have had some stretches of good play this year. Palat has just looked finished.

Not even trying to be condescending but 2 of those guys being made UFAs off of teams that have been pretty damn good at talent evaluating should've been the red flag there lol, especially Palat with Tampa Bay

Long ways away, but should we hold onto our playoff spot, I nominate adding player heads to these gifs for everyone’s playoff avatar.

this is so helpful. Sheldon should put this post on the f***ing locker room door so they can read how easy they can make their lives if they simply got their shit together.

It would really be so hard to miss given the cushion they had given themselves. The fact it’s even a concern at all and especially given the playoff line isn’t even going to be 90 f***ing points is beyond pathetic.

Bring back Daws!!!!
They need to stop the Markstrom stuff. I’d rather him be on the bench most of the time (or back on the IR) than be a huge reason for us missing the playoffs because he went 1-6-1 after returning with 15 goals and counting allowed just in 3rd periods alone.

15 goals in the 3rd period since returning. He’s allowed 28 in total.

So I don’t wanna hear “Well he was really good earlier in this game! He only allowed 1 goal before the 3rd!” He literally did the same thing last game. Allowed 1 goal before the 3rd, then 3 more in the 3rd.

Only two in the 3rd tonight.

I was at the game. I remember being pissed off because I thought a defenseman could have cleared the puck before the Debrusk goal. Does anyone know who/if that was?

Pesce!!! He absolutely should and could have cleared. He f***ed it up bad. I don't know why anyone else isn't as equally as mad at him as I am (on here) at least, lol

I get he saves us in other games, but that was bad

If they win the next 3 games specifically the back to back against Winnipeg and Minnesota, then I am going to win the powerball

The 3rd periods have looked like nonstop and never ending penalty kills for three of the last four games.

The only game that wasn’t a nonstop PK in the 3rd was the game we were losing 3-1.

Somehow we always get goalies that are average to terrible at shootouts.

CORY being one of the worst ever, followed up by Blackwood/Vitek.

Markstrom is better than them in SO but not by much. Cory was the absolute worst if I recall.

Blackwood was bad too when he was here and he looked good the other night v Montreal in it, it's definitely a Rogalski/our goalie coaching under Cory thing. Only thing I watched tonight was the shootout and Markstrom was out to lunch on both goals, tried thinking he was Marty on the first one where DeBrusk sniped him and no clue what he was doing on the Lettermaki goal

Which is why it was a big deal that they were sucking ass before the injuries. Who could have known that it actually does in fact matter when the team has the success rate of a lottery team for 10+ weeks? /sarcasm
Doesn’t appear to have mattered that much given that they’re extremely likely to make the playoffs. What matters is that their top guy is done for the year along with key dmen which has nothing to do with anything you ever said.

It didn’t matter for Carolina who was just as bad as us for a very extended period (17-16-3 from 11/29 to 2/25). Because as I actually said and you can go ahead and check it, health and goalie play are what actually matter when the playoffs start. We don’t have that so doom is now appropriate.

The fact that Cholowski plays at all and is used in OT is beyond depressing.

This guy will go down as a meme among rando Devils defensemen that were here for a minute.

He’s like the Tim Sestito of defensemen. I hope he isn’t in the organization as long as Sestito was.

Shame on Nemec for losing his spot to this guy.

This team played with a lot of heart tonight. We’ve showed a lot of heart more often than not this year, especially since Jack and Hamilton both went down and we’ve had to learn to win without them and despite a roster that was thin in spots to begin with.

Keep it up to the finish and this season is a success in my eyes no matter what. We are playing essentially playoff hockey right now, meaningful games going down the stretch. We’ve got a 7 point lead with 10 games to play. I’m not down on this team at all.
Absolute props to you. Tough to see how it's even possible not to be down on this team.

Sub .500% win percentage since the new year, blowing leads/points left and right right in the middle of a playoff race.

A very depressing and demoralizing few months.

Honestly don’t know what people see in Fitz. People are prematurely crediting him with “fixing” the D as an example, when there are several contracts and roster situations that could predictably go sideways within a year or two. Ditto for this goaltending duo that he paid assets for. And the state of our forwards is well documented at this point. His body of work thus far suggests he got lucky more than anything else in the one good season we’ve had under him.

Rogalski? We apparently don’t talk about him around here…..

Would be funny if the Markstrom Jenga bender to end the season is what leads to his demise. Especially when just two weeks ago it looked like he was a lock on keeping his job beyond this year.

Love the references., and yeah shame on Nemec for getting our rostered by a rando. Agreed 100%

GM's tend to get inflated in the mind of fans once a team has a good season like they did in 22/23 when you can argue Shero was a part of that team up front, Fitz fixed the back end which Shero couldn't and they got a decent Vanecek season. Then he decided to make it his team even more and it blew up in his face f***ing miserably.

Lou sent that guy as a double agent so the Isles could have a chance at the playoffs, it's working so far

If they miss the playoffs this core is toast, I don't think fans really want that, some angry fans say they are ready to gut everyone, but I don't think people understand how much that will set this franchise back again

Team has to make playoffs this season and get the reps in, see if they can crawl out of the 1st round and beyond, and then retool in the offseason
I agree. At this point missing the playoffs could create too much of a very loser type culture within the team. We don’t want that. I think the team has too much potential to be motivated by missing the playoffs. Getting another taste of the big show is probably what will drive hunger into this team. I understand many are very frustrated and disappointed with the team right now. I wish it was better myself. But we could probably kiss the playoffs goodbye for the rest of this decade if they blew up the team to rebuild again. Let them have a first round experience this year. Then start fine tuning this team. I saw almost everyone predicting the Devils to be a top contender before the start of the season. Get everyone healthy by September and add some firepower over the summer and I believe we can be an extremely tough team.
