The problem is that no, they have not been bad for that entire stretch of games. Absurd. You’re including 5-0 and 5-1 wins in this. Shootout losses where they’re trying to beat Florida for a 3rd time are included in this. Trying to beat Carolina back to back on the road is in this. Not to mention the pants popping.

If we’re at the point where you don’t even want to consider that missing one of the best centers in franchise history and the best defensive dman in the NHL so far this year isn’t something that matters…not quite sure what we’re doing here. They stink, you win. See you in a couple weeks when they’re a top team again.

I agree with the sentiment that it should get better. However, the team wasn't playing good hockey even with Nico and Siegs in the lineup to start the new year. Of course losing them matters now, and hopefully they get through it, but Nico has been out for like a week and Siegs has missed 1 game. This has been going on for longer than their injuries.

I agree . He wasted and entire year already by not addressing the need fur goaltending. Now it’s fixing the bottom 6. I don’t want to hear about limited cap space . Teams find ways all the time to dump cap. Rags just dumped their captain and made room to eventually add Miller . Who cares if you have to package an asset to get rid of so to make a trade. Add a pick if need be in order to get someone like Evans . What’s better ? Missing the playoffs and keeping that 3rd /2nd round pick ? Or using it to improve the team now ? Fitz made this mess of a bottom 6 . It’s time to fix it now . Maybe not a total revamp , but add a player or two like Evans. The entire bottom 6 has to change in the offseason though .

I don't care about "wins since an arbitrary date". Just like I dont care about "The Isles won 7 in a row and we cant!" mind you they are still 10 points behind us. Like I said, were you in here crowning them the 2-3 weeks before that when they looked unbeatable? Probably not.

All that matters now is

1) get healthy
2) bring in reinforcements at the deadline

I agree, the team hasn't had a lot of luck this year. I still think they had a bit more to give since the new year. The Western road trip is a good example of that.

Again, I'm pretty confident they turn it around. The last month has been unfortunate.

This is the last game I'm going to care about. Mash unit v L4 Vegas, there's a good chance the Devils lose this while healthy with the way they were playing in early/late January with a healthy squad. Last 2 weeks has gotten me a bit down on them. I'd probably be totally out on them if there wasn't a 2 week break but hopefully that resets them and they can get a few bodies back healthy after that

Lol okay dude. You know EXACTLY the point I’m making, but you keep doing this “well, ackshully” thing and it’s quite stupid. Like you thought it was some super astute point earlier in response to me that, “well, actually they haven’t been losing 3-0 and outshot 30-11 in every game over those five weeks, sooo”? No, of course you didn’t.

Yes, they have won games, some quite lopsided, over that stretch. *On the aggregate* it’s been consistently bad over that stretch. You know it, I know it, we all know it.

I’m not saying Hischier being injured doesn’t matter. I’m saying he was playing for about 90% of this “stretch”. So clearly, that’s not your silver bullet.

Yes, let’s hope they’re back to being a top team soon. You never know what potential excuse is waiting around the corner of course.
