Could they sell guys who have multiple years left on their deals like Rakell and Rust while Crosby is on the team?

Yeah idk. They just added heinan and they've got one more year of Malkin, and I guess it doesn't make much sense to sell guys who are cost controlled like that... More of a: hey these guys would help us and I'm guessing the 30-something guys are the ones you're shopping... Than any likelihood of a deal

I gotta think that they would sell valuable assets to try to get young NHL ready prospects as opposed to draft pick down to the studs rebuild ... But they could/should be just planning for life after Crosby and tank?

i wasn't following reactions what was the common conclusion on the no goal kicking motion? that didn't seem like a kicking motion to me at all even if it was a kicking motion it didn't even happen anywhere near the goalie which i'm told is very dangerous and why they need the rule.

if a team is smart they know they aren't going to go anywhere so sell high and get the most while you can. even let sid go elsewhere if thats what he wants.

Of course it was a kick.

Dubas has done a terrible job as GM and is committed to keeping as much of the Pens' core together. And Sid is almost certainly staying put as a result.
He did a terrible job in Toronto also.

Worthless joke GM.

He’s a case where being young actually helps him. If he were 10 years older I don’t think people would be so enamored with him.

And because he’s not even 40 yet, I’m sure he’ll almost definitely get a third GM job after this, unless things go catastrophically bad there. Most guys don’t get a third shot.

He just traded Pettersson for a 1st, I'm not so sure that applies anymore. I think Sid stays regardless of what happens, but the Penguins are stuck in permanent 10th if they keep on this path.

As for Dubas overall, he has had an absolutely impossible task and has not done well at it. Joining a franchise after they've just tried to incredibly half-ass some sort of retool (and failing at it) while they have 3 extremely old star players is the worst place to jump in.

if thats a kick then they should 1000000000000000000000% allow kicking goals the blade never left the surface of the ice!

which makes me wonder say the exact same play happens but the pass is knee high and the player lifts his skate up to try and receive the pass and it deflects into the net no kicking motion is that considered a good goal? i mean the blade being a couple feet off the ice is a lot more dangerous then a kicking motion shown above no?

to me that doesn't look like a kick but i could go either way on the decision which is why its such a stupid rule and wide open to interpt.

Game was over in real time by the time I got home and started watching from the beginning. My Penguins fan coworker texted me while we were up 2-0 to ask if I had finished the game yet which naturally set off bad vibes.

i agree with this that sid isn't going anywhere he got his cups his legacy is cemented if he stays the full tenure. so why not just rip it down instead of trying to compete for a fringe playoff spot to just get bounced in round 1. just prolongs the inevitable aka lou lam style

I would legitimately ask Sid. He's that important to your franchise.

Have a conversation with him and be like: look, we're stuck between a rock and a hard place. You want to stay forever, we want you to stay forever. We want to ice as competitive a team as possible, but right now it just doesn't look like that's in the cards. For the benefit of the franchise you have sweat and bled for, we're going to tear it down to the studs around him (minus malkin and letang unless they wanna go) unless you tell us you absolutely do not want that, in which case we'll keep treading water.

I think he'd give you his blessing to do it, in all honesty. I have a lot of beef with Sid stans, but gave up criticizing him as a player or leader a very long time ago.

Pens were a real tire fire his first year, poetic if his time concludes there the same way.

pens have the pieces that teams entering a rebuild could only dream of. it would shave years off a rebuild if they were able to sell off the pieces something that we didn't have the benefit of # thanks louis

To me, it's pretty much the opposite of wide open to interpret. It seems your interpretation of a kick is the foot having to leave the ice. I don't think that's the case. He moves his foot forward to push or propel the puck into the net. Now, it wasn't his intention as mentioned before, he was trying to kick it to his stick. But Luke's stick check prevented him from getting a stick on it so it just goes into the net cleanly.

Clearly a kick.

Thats why Sal and Dano were like this when the referees took way too long to review it:

Is it just me or have Bill, Dano and Sal all started to really lean into the homerism the past few broadcasts? I don't care too much because I find their reactions comical a lot of the time, but it seems to have really ramped up lately.

I haven't really watched too much lately. One of my favorite moments was when Dano looked at the Timo Meier knee-on-knee that wasn't and said "well I get why they called it," only for Sal to say "hey I know you want to be PC, but that was clearly not"

I'd have to imagine those types of conversations (what happens if the team simply isn't good enough) came up when discussing his contract extension.

It has. Sal and Bill especially. Dano still is critical when it's deserved but Sal is really moving from criticism to spinning a mistake as a near success stance.

I don't care for it. I want objective commentary.

its the point how its decided. the nhl certainly didn't make this change thinking they are going to slow grind out victories in whats supposed to be a super exciting skill show off for an extra point. its slowly gotten worse from the first year and will continue to do so. 3on3 is pretty gimmicky but its exciting at least teams ragging the puck playing keep away willingly is even more gimmicky then the shootout imo
a goal is being scored in 80% of 3v3…they aren’t changing anything about it unless that plummets.

I absolutely f***ing hate it. Recently they’ve also started behaving more like fans than broadcasters. At one point last night Sal was literally saying “Come on {insert devils shooter}, win this one for Daws”. It also bothers me that they refer to several of the players by their nicknames, as if they are teammates.

I obviously want them to have some slant towards the team, but this shit is just cringy.
