I didn’t see anyone egregiously off from where they’re expected to play.

It’s a lot to ask of the the forward to look at the puck but also cover about 60% of the open ice behind him.

The inability for the Devils to breakout once the team collapses in is also why the weak side defender can be so comfortable getting low. There is little risk in him doing so, Devils won’t make him pay even if the Devils gain control.
