Olympics: Your Country's 2022 Roster? (Assuming NHL participation)

Well, I support and cheer for Sweden since I was a kid and the first thing I clearly remember from that time was Forsberg's penalty goal and Salo's heroics in Lillehammer 1994.

Sweden have a very interesting squad. They are stacked with great defenders, but this time they don't have that great offensive players like Forsberg, Sundin, Alfredsson, Sedin brothers.

But still they have a very, very solid group of capable offensive players who can win the Olympics, under the right coach of course.

In my opinion Canada, Finland, Sweden, Russia and USA are the main favourites and one of these teams will win it.

But still Germany, Czech Republic and Switzerland and Slovakia have good rosters too and in one game the can beat one of the big 5, but that will be their maximum, one surprise result, but can't see any of these 4 teams winning the Olympics.

My choice for team Sweden's roster in 2022:

I don’t think we have quality on the wing to keep quality forwards like Pettersson and W. Karlsson on third and fourth line, why not play them on the wing instead?

I think Bäckström and Nylander will at least start the tournament on the same line. If you don't know they story, Bäckström lived with the Nylanders when he first moved to North America and was like a big brother to William and Alexander. A couple of IHWC back, I wanna say 2017 WC, Bäckström and Nylander played on the same line and had very, very good chemistry. Not at least starting them together would be a mistake in my mind.

No way we leave Ristolainen out if we are playing best-on-best. Also Kotka over Haula any day of the week. I would also consider Lehkonen and Kakko on the team depending on how they play next season. If Laine keep cherrypicking and doesnt start skating/play physical - I leave him out to 13th attacker and only use him for PP.
On defense I want a defensive minded D on all pairings. Määttä/Nutivaara would get destroyed.

It's a shame no NHL goalie as it will be a tough tourney to win without one. Curious how Hofmann looks... I kept mistaking him for an NHLer during the WC. Seemed to be on another level.

Huberdeau - McDavid - MacKinnon <--- Youth, offensive flair, godly speed/skating.
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron <--- This line has been completely unstoppable for years.
Barzal - Point - Lafreniere <-- Speed, creativity, think Laf would thrive on this team.
Couturier - O'Reilly - Stone <--- Stereotypical gritty 4th line but with strong offensive upside.

EXTRAS : Stamkos/Scheifele/Marner/Tavares/Toffoli/Horvat

Theodore-Makar < --- Have developed into some of the best young D in the NHL.
Pietrangelo - Doughty <--- Vets, been there, neither has done nothing to NOT make this team.
Chabot -Parayko <--- Big guys, great skaters, long reach, successful international experience already.

EXTRAS :Ekblad/Rielly/Girard/Toews/Morissey/Nurse.

Price <--- Has been nothing but a wall for Canada at all levels.
Fleury <--- Huge part of VGK is this man right here.
Kuemper/Murray <--- Canada's goalies for 2019 WC and 2021 WC.

Yes but if I actually list all the best vs best tournaments throughout history, Canada has won like 10 of 14.

Yep, there are 6 teams who can win. There is no doubt that Canada will have the best roster, but in single-game elimination everything can happen. I don't think Germany and Switzerland will be able to win it all, yet. They can definitely upset some of the top teams, but pulling off three upsets in a row is too big a feet. Could see one of them possibly snagging the bronze though.

Canada's 6 of 9 in best on best in the last 30 years.

As for the gap, we went thru a lull in high quality player production - when others excelled. Give it a couple years and you'll see some amazing Canadian players being produced - while other countries "lull".

I dont disagree with anything currently.

Just wanted to add that the 2005 world championships was a best on best that Canada lost in the final. If I have to hear about the Canadian world junior team from 2005 about 1 million times a season than I get to talk about the Czechs winning the 2005 men's championship.
