Your biggest "Blew it" player predictions.

Alway root for the underdog on the blue line. Cory Murphy and Matt Taormina

I still think he has room for growth given his late development, he's only 26 years old and has speed and some offensive skills.

In other words, if he's out of the NHL in 2 years, this will be my "biggest Blew it player prediction". :D

Andy Greene: For about the first 2-3 years of Greene's NHL career, I didn't like the guy. He seemed to me like a smallish, unimpressive Jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none kind of defender that could be had at a bargain price anywhere in the league. Greene has obviously become an excellent defender who can also chip in offensively. He's a major building-block long-term as well as probably our best overall D now.

Andy Greene isnt a major building-block. That term is reserved for very few people in the NHL (Stamkos, Kane, Weber, etc..).

The Devils defense was very NHL average in GA last year despite the Devils goaltending tandem of Brod-oose having the 4th best SVP in the entire NHL at 92%.

In other words, the Devils defense isnt that great. There are plenty of teams in the NHL where Andy Greene would be a #5-#6 and a few where he'd be a healthy scratch. What I'm saying is, your analysis suffers from "Tallest Midget Syndrome".

man, you are REALLY off base.

New system, different personnel last year. They were in the top half of GAA this year despite AWFUL goaltending.

There's no team in the NHL Andy Greene would be a healthy scratch on, come on. He'd be playing over Leddy in Chicago, Redden in Boston, etc.

I thought Yann Danis was going to be good when we signed him, basically what Hedberg later became lol. Defensively I'd say Fayne, I thought he didn't belong in the NHL during that whole disaster of '11 - particuarly that hideous game in Washington where looked like he invented pylons. Up front I'd say Parise in one respect - I thought he'd stay and be a lifer if we proved we could win, and we did win and he still left. But that's misjudging character, not talent. Talentwise, maybe it'll wind up being Zajac (in that I didn't think his game was so dependent on you know who)...we'll see this year.

Yeah, the US Olympic Team maybe.

This is quite possibly the worst thing I've ever seen posted on HFBoards, congratulations.

I remember thinking to myself when they didn't re-sign Brylin, "it's OK, they have Vrana."

:shakehead

I was so amped after the 88 playoff run that I figured Sean Burke was the Devils #1 goalie for eternity. Was very reluctant to accept Terreri as the better player, and was never a big fan of Terreri because of that.

Likewise Colin White I thought was the heir apparent Ken Daneyko. Though I know injuries did play a part in that.

Also really liked Ansi Salmela.

Agreed, thought he was going to be our lord and savior

I was in the same boat with everyone who named Vrana. Guy looked to be another Brylin in the wings. Solid little 20+ goal scorer. Not so much.

I still hold out hope that Tedenby puts it all together, because I think that he has the potential to be a 2nd liner somewhere.

Great. When you're a GM someday please start your entire team's franchise with its' "building block" of Andy Greene. I'll get my popcorn out and see how well they do.

Yes, I meant to say the last full season, not last year's short data season, but even then I would still be wrong (they were only something like .911 not .920). I had thought put together they were near the top that year.

I am still waiting to see the teams Andy Greene would be a 5/6 on or even better, a healthy scratch on.

please provide the list.

There are so many teams I think Andy Greene would be a #5/#6 on, I'm not bothering. I'd say, perhaps 1/3 of the entire NHL.

Last season, the short stat season, was BY FAR Andy Greene's best season in the NHL, and he only played 48 games. Lets see if he can replicate that this year. My guess? He wont. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

In 2011-12 he only managed 56 games. One of his chief responsibilities on that team was his role on the powerplay, and in that role he scored a herculean 2 points for the entire year.

In 2010-11 (a full season) he was a minus 23 with 4 goals and 1 powerplay point, despite again receiving a fair amount of PP time. Good for 74th among NHL defensemen in scoring. Whoopee.

Honestly? I've never understood why so many people here call Andy Greene an "Offensive Defenseman". He scores about 23 points a season and is a lifetime +3. Have fun using that as your franchise's "Building Block". He's a decent #4,#5,#6 depending on the team, and is pressed into a much higher numerical role on the Devils than what he should have.

ah the old "I'm not even bothering with that" defense.

got it.

also I enjoy you saying "he could only manage" 56 games in 11-12, acting like he was a healthy scratch and didn't have a serious injury.
