I don't remember him ever being elite.

I don't even remember him having even a quarter of Hart's hype.

I definitely would not entertain a first for him.

He was rated the best prospect in the world let alone his position in his draft +1 by the hockey news.

If anything, Lehner has proven you don't give up big assets (or big dollars) for a goalie.

I’d really like to see him make the playoffs this year and see him raise his game even more.
I feel he could steal a playoff series or 2

Jacob Markstrom has been great lately. He's taken a step forward this season b/c the team's gotten faster; thus less time is spent in the d-zone & forwards are able to backcheck better. I think he'd look even better if the Canucks revamped the d-core.

If the Canucks think Markstrom looks like a starter going forward, then the correct move is to keep Markstrom until Demko pushes him out. If LA pushed out their 'get you by' starter in Quick for their top prospect goalie Bernier, then LA never wins their Cups.
The Canucks have until next year's TDL to make that call. Markstrom's contract expires in 2020 and I don't see him extending with Vancouver on a short term deal to cover Demko's development, if required. He'd want term, as he should.

In season trades for starting goalies are hard to make. These are off-season moves.

He isn't consistent enough. I just barely put Freddy Andersen in the elite goalies and Markstrom is not better than Andersen.

Vancouver needs to keep him, and nobody will pay a high price to get him... so I don't think this needs to be a further thread

No you.

Markstrom's save % is .908 average/maybe below average

but based on the advanced stats of GSAA (goals saved against average) he is #1 with 52, while Lehner and Vasilevskiy are 2 and 3 respectively 18, 17
You Canucks fans like to compare decent players to elite players, Petterson to McDavid, Markstrom to Vasilevskiy?

I like Markstrom also but he isn't going to return a first rd pick in a trade. He probably has pretty solid trade value but it makes sense for the Canucks to keep him anyway.

Hes been dominant since December, but I don't think that's nearly enough for teams to go all in on him. Let him play out the next season or two, see if he can keep up this level of play. If he does, you have a legit top 10 goalie, and a great situation with Demko as the backup. You could either trade him if Demko demonstrates hes ready and the price is right, or make him your #1. He's still just 29, he could definitely still be a solid starter when the Canucks are competitive.

It's in the Canucks' best interest to hold onto Markstrom while Demko gets eased into the league. Markstrom is the type of goalie that could be worth a 1st in the next two years if he can sustain this play, or could be worth nothing if he is inconsistent again. If he keeps it up then definitely deal him when Demko is ready/better than Markstrom in the next few years.

He is an awful goalie

He picked up a lot of bad habits in Florida as per our old goalie coach.

Markstrom's contract expires in 2020. I don't see him staying in Vancouver for very long. He knows the goalie situation here. No point in signing him long term. Canucks can't give up on Demko. There's no guarantee of anything from Dipietro yet.

Andersen is easily an elite goalie. Im surprise you have him as barely elite considering you have a Leafs logo as your pfp.

Canucks could still re-sign Markstrom to a 2-3 year deal in 2020 with a raise if he's earned it, then trade him in the second or third year of the deal. But yeah, his time in Vancouver is limited for sure. Although goalies are hard to predict, Markstrom could end up being the best of the three, though Demko has looked legit so far.
