Over the past 5 seasons, looking at points per game among forwards:
-McDavid 1.70
-MacKinnon 1.48
-Kucherov 1.48
-Draisaitl 1.46
-Panarin 1.32

Vs Defencemen
-Makar 1.07
-Josi 0.98
-Hughes 0.92
-Hedman 0.87
-Fox 0.86

So he's ahead of the pack for his position offensively whereas none of the remaining forwards are. He's also a well rounded player, good defensively, can handle tough matchups, plays the PK, etc.

He's also been a Norris finalist every season except his rookie season (and even in his rookie season came 9th in Norris voting).

Don't mind the votes for Mack but what Drai manages to do in the playoffs even at sub 70% health is just unprecedented. He would get my vote for #2.

Sam Gagner had 8 points in roughly that same amount of ice time in a single game. It's almost as if small sample sizes don't really matter sometimes...

I think you could have Makar, MacKinnon, Kucherov or Draisaitl as your #2 and wouldn't be wrong either way. As good as Makar is, I think I'll take MacKinnon here.

Makar is injury prone but he's the next guy I want if we assume everyone is healthy. The following guys are interchangeable based on the year:
