I'd be looking for a 1st-ish/2nd line center to play behind Suzuki. Dach is a good player but he's made of paper, Dvorak is bad and Evans, while good, ain't good enough to support a 2nd line. Young, 60+ points or more center, is what I'm looking for.

What Montréal would offer:
Everything, but Demidov and Reinbacher.
You want first round picks? We have a bunch of them. We don't need them anymore. We are loaded with "B+" prospects. You want one or two of them? Let's f***ing go.
Montréal can help you speed run the part where you have to suck ass to get good assets.

Who is available?

Ryan O'Reilly makes a bit of sense but isn't young.

Not too many of the teams at the bottom of the standings have Cs available, especially ones with some term.

Maybe Noah Cates if Philadelphia want to move on from him and get a decent return.

Cozens is probably the only one that would fit/is available, but it would likely need to be a three-way because I don't think Buffalo is looking for picks either.

What kinda C u thinking about? Im assuming Suzuki is the #1 C moving forward. so if ur after a #2 C might as well just target one in Free Agency. why spend to get a guy that will be available for free?

MTL isn't in a position to be buying right now and without Reinbacher/Demidov available a true #1 is outta the question.

also dont buy when your so close to getting another top 10 pick. might just push you outside of it.

I think MTL would be best fitted to address these needs in the offseason and beyond.

No matter what that clown Kypreos says there is 0% chance LA moved Byfield
Marc Bergevin is assistant GM over there, never say never!

Yeah, no sense being buyers when we havent even made the playoffs with this core yet. These types of trades are meant to extend a window, not create it.

well I mean if u get a long term option/someone that can grow with the team then sure, but Id prob just rather keep my draft stock and sign guys for free, I dunno if that deal comes around just yet without giving up assets that will help MTL in the future.
if they were a few points back of the playoffs then sure but when ur projected to pick in the top 10 again prob best to wait it out.

whats the worst that happens? pick in the top 10 and the division gets little easier over the next couple years while your kids develop? in 2-3 years it would make sense right now, not so much

Wrong. You can make those trades when you know you have all the assets you need to take the next step in the rebuild - Which Montreal is ready to make.

You don’t just go from a basement dweller to a playoff/contending team right away. There is a clear need at 2C right now and there is a lot of benefit for development and a team as a whole to play meaningful games and learn what it takes to win hockey games that matters.

Just trade for Barzal
I actually like this idea tbh

Not happening with what Montréal would be willing to give up. Isles don’t need a package of overhyped prospects, 3rd liners and mid round picks. Only way Barzal might be moved is a hockey deal.
I mean we’d be willing to give up first round picks and past first round players? If your not in rebuild mode then yeah likely not a fit but our management team has made it clear about trading picks and prospects for players now

LA is indeed deep at center. Byfield is the best option but unlikely to happen. Former Caufield linemate Turcotte on the other hand may be woth a gamble.
And the UFA crop is devoid of offensive centers.

Barzal's been a mess this year and scores at a 54pt pace. A 9m cap hit for a 54pt player is laughable, NYI will be paying team to take him off their hands. He's been barely a PPG player in his career, with several notable down years, and he's not got any special bona fides in terms of intangibles etc. He's not known for his physical play or his defensive acumen or his shot.

I'm not sure what you're expecting in terms of trade offers but he will be moved for middle6ers, prospects, and picks at best.

Ep40 if you trust him (I don't)
Restricted fa's Wyatt Johnson & Gabe Villardi better fit but I don't think the 9m offer sheet gets it done. Do you give up 11m and 2 1's is the question.

I doubt Montreal goes for an offer sheet. It wouldn’t make sense as there are plenty of other options on the market and with the cap going up the next three years you won’t see that many teams with cap issues they can’t resolve if an OS came in

I bet they do nothing with their picks and UFAs. The GM is choosing "culture" and the fox hole. Two great ingredients to learn how to win.

A bunch of picks wouldn't get you a 2nd line center anyhow.
