Player Discussion: Yegor Chinakhov

crickets. someone didn’t want that smoke i guess.

What smoke, it’s f***ing mid June. Let’s just wait til next October when everyone forgets anything negative said about him unless a certain somebody brings it up.

I don’t care about the dumb bet. Ironically Laine is also somebody I said Chinakhov was just as good as, or better than, and was seen as “outlandish” or whatever, like most everything else I’ve said about Patty. And I stand by it.

Chinakhov = Marchenko > > Laine

Chinakhov’s shooting, skating, and passing skills, along with his physical play (even at the start of the year) and “hockey IQ”, are just as good as Marchenko.

He’s a little less agile of a skater, and probably a little bit better of a shooter.

WHY are people downplaying his skills and ability as a player!?!?

so we have a bet then, yes?

i will give you your flowers here. i was a laine defender and i was wrong.

WHY are people downplaying his skills and ability as a player!?!?
because those skills haven’t translated to actual production.

outside of a 10 game hot streak playing with two players who were still elite without him, he hasn’t been a real difference maker.

i like the player and think he has a lot of talent, but waiting for him to put it all together and stay healthy is the same thing we did with guys like ryan murray, sonny milano, gabriel carlsson, adam boqvist, jake bean, alex texier and emil bemstrom.

I think it has more to do with the fact he hasn't been able to support your position because he can't stay healthy. I don't know that many on here would disagree that he has a great skill set, but the best ability is availability and he simply hasn't been available to show he can be consistent with the tools in the toolbox. I love him as a player, but I don't feel he's part of the core at this point and I'd prefer to have someone in the lineup contributing. I don't trust Chinakhov to be part of this core at this point. Not because he isn't good enough, but because he isn't here enough. You can only hold a spot so long and he's missed a lot of time to develop and demonstrate he can show those traits consistently.

Even if you told me he was only going to play 41 games a year, if that 41 games is the quality he showed to start the season I would gladly keep the player. He's on a cheap deal. I don't buy that we're better off without him or that we will get anything of value for him. Let's give him a shot to get back in form.

I dont think he'll be on the team next year. DW has been very adamant in getting rid of injury prone players. He just cant stay healthy.

He got rid of bad players. You won't see Wads trying to get rid of Monahan.

I'm remembering my old quip about Jack Johnson, when in his prime people would praise how many minutes he could play - "the food tastes really bad but at least there's a huge plate of it". It's some variant of an old joke that I can't remember.

Anyways Chinakhov is becoming like the opposite of that. We don't know how much is going to be on the plate, maybe only half the dinner, but it's often delicious, and it's nearly free. You take that when you can get it.

You can only hold a spot so long

I think it adds to the case to add another forward, because we have no idea how much Chinakhov is going to play. But does it really mean we can't have Chinakhov on our roster? The thing about rosters, even on game 1, is that you expect to have multiple guys coming and going from the roster with injury and performance issues. Having inexpensive players like Chinakhov who might be able to step up, even at a top line level, that's a big plus.

• The Jackets, like all NHL clubs, have minimal contact with players during the offseason, but they can check in on players who were injured in the previous season. Waddell said he received a positive update on winger Yegor Chinkahov, who was saddled with a back injury in recent seasons. Chinakhov has played in 113 games and missed 112 games with injury over the last three seasons. Not a good ratio. But Waddell said there was good news last week: “I just got a report that everything is going well for him,” he said. “Everything is going well for him. He’s training. No issues at all. I don’t worry about him. He’s always been in pretty good shape, and the report said no issues at all.” Chinakhov mentioned to reporters late last season that he needed a procedure on his back that was only available in Russia, but it’s unclear if he’s had any procedure since the season ended.

Yea, Ohio Health referred me to a Dr in St Petersburg, too.

Back surgeries always go well according to the doctors and gms immediately after surgery.

The proof will be in the pudding. If he's ready to go in training camp and doesn't miss half the games then I'll be convinced.

This is a picture of me 4 weeks after my secret Russian back surgery.

Chinakhov = Marchenko

Marchenko in the 2024-2025 season 31 goals/74 points
Chinakhov in 175 NHL games has 34 goals and 71 points on top of injury issues

I just can't see how you can make that statement. Not trying to stir the pot, I just can't fathom the comment. I do like the player.
