I've been a big Grigorenko fan for awhile but couldn't watch him tonight since Montreal was in play. Did he create any offense tonight? 2 more games, correct..does he make the team?

He was benched for sloppy defensive play early but sparked a bit late. Who knows

Yup he actually showed some good vision and made a couple nice passes, also tried to force a couple passes when he should have shot, not sure if he makes it

I'd say he has a 50/50 shot, it's really up in the air, he had a couple chances, I want to see what he can do with better linemates.

These would be my lines tomorrow...

VHP
Ennis-Grigs-Staff
Foligno-Ott-Kaleta
Scott-Hecht-Gerbe

Have to try to light a fire to get the secondary scoring going somehow. The 2nd line explains itself and moving Foligno to the 3rd line may remind him how he needs to play the game along side of two bangers.
I second that lines. Would be my choice as well. Grigo is getting his chance on an offensive orientated line and could spark the other two. I'd even consider playing Grigo between V+P, if they don't score and are trailing after the 1st.

I was thinking of this line as well as the Foligno/Ott/Kaleta line.

We need to re-defiine our bottom 6 with two lines that can aggressively forecheck and and pound the other team. Hopefully we can find a defense line among that group.

We badly need to acquire a defensive center thats strong on the draw.

You don't judge a season by one game but this team's weakness going in was down the middle and it has showed the last two games. Got a bit lucky in Toronto. Team sucks in the dot, really sucks. Not sure that can be fixed without a trade which won't happen. Our PP needs to be better and it can be. The D is solid.
Overall, will have games like tonight. Team is pretty much as expected, a 5-10 team with good young talent coming up that will need Miller to make playoffs and win a round.
People expected more?
not to mention there are only a handful of teams that are rolling right now, lots of jekyl & hyde hockey being played around the league.

lack of preseason does mean something. i'm waiting til games 7, 8, 9... before getting too high/low

I don't see the harm in giving Grigs an opportunity with Ennis and Stafford, obviously Foligno Ennis and Stafford is not working out. Foligno may be more NHL ready but Grigs offensive instincts are far superior, give him a chance, if it doesn't work out in the first period, just switch it back and pray to God that FES finds their **** again.

No need to split up the only line generating offense for the sabres right now. I would like to see grigs between ES though. Foligno hasn't created much in the way of offense so it could as you say spark the other two.

I would guess sent down. Lindy keeping an 18 year old Russian? Long shot..unless he somehow goes on a tear these next two games.

Sekera turned a puck over real bad in the late stages. Red flag. We are making dumb decisions trying to force. it's taking us of our game style. We have to play our game. That's what lost us it, and bad coverage/goalie rebounds. We went down and didn't play our tougher fast game, we let Carolina walk right in.

I hate saying it over but Enroth did poorly, very poorly. Miller's gonna play 40-42 games this year if Lindy is furious enough with this. We need to re do our lines exlucing Hodgson Vanek Pommer. Vanek and Pommer did very well tonight. Coho too, but the turnovers hurt.

The FES line may not be roaring down the track yet, try switching Foligno or Ennis to the Ott line, switch centers. I want to see Girgorenko actually get playing time to create offense. He has talent, we all see it, but he is barely getting time to mesh. Especially on the powerplay.

As for the defense, Myers is doing horribly. He did sort of better today but not much. Sekera was turning over and making garbage passes tonight. Sulzer softened up on us and was being abused. Ehrhoff was good, Regehr is as slow as a snail out there...

Grigs being Russian will have absolutely nothing to do with the decision. Are we really starting this nonsense? Is this so if he goes back to juniors we can pretend his play had nothing to do with it.

Ok, how about because he's supposed to be our 'franchise defenseman' and has been our worst through the first 3 games. Yes, the worst.

Anyways, just one game, win tomorrow and get back on track here.

Agreed. He was easily the worst tonight. With his ice time and being the #1 it hurts that much more.

True enough but you can play 48 games and there's still a lack of depth at centre. That won't change but it doesn't mean the team sucks either.

So do we see one of Brennan or Weber tomorrow?

There are certainly plenty of dmen that are candidates for a benching.

I think there was a quiet optimism that this team could surprise and make a run this year, much like the lockout season last time. It still could. But, I think this game gave a scary reality check as to why we originally had fears. Almost all of them came to the forefront tonight with the top 2 centres really struggling, along with FES, Myers, faceoffs, and PP. Going forward, with a young lineup, you are going to have games like this where you really do question everything. The real concern to me is Myers. The rest I think will work itself out.
