Oilers are better off keeping him and hoping that with more stable linemates he can improve his game.

Yakupov for Filppula

He has a NMC, so what's in it for Filpula to make him waive? Right, nothing.

1. Eklund is a joke, he is batting about 1% in the past 5 years. (that might be generous) I refuse to click on any links to his site which keeps his blogs a reality.

2. Yakupov has not proven himself to be worth much, but that doesn't mean I (and many Other Oiler fans) think the Oilers should trade him. Personally, I would rather take the risk on his potential upside and lose him for nothing, rather than lose him for every offer I have seen from other teams posters this past year. Laugh about potential, but burying him on the 3rd and 4th lines with a bunch of plugs like Lander and Letestu does not usually bode well for a young, confidence-fragile, offensive minded player... am I right Canadien fans?

3. The Oilers are surely not trading for Filppula, a negative asset. (a) he has a NMC, meaning he has to agree to the trade first and he MUST be protected in the upcoming Expansion draft (contrary to some peopke's understanding of a NMC, if he waives to go to a team of his liking the clause is still in effect), (b) NMC aside, he is no longer worth anywhere near his contract commitment ($5M per for this and next season). Who cares if he waives, don't want any part of that anchor of a contract.

I say keep Yak and play him in the top 6 for half a season... if he continues to suck then you keep him as an exposed RFA for the Expansion Draft or let him walk on July 1 for nothing.

I'm just curious, who has more value in a one-for-one (struggling winger for struggling winger) swap: Yak or Nichushkin?

Both could use changes of scenery.

wait... i'm still waiting on Shattenkirk to the Habs, Fowler to the Leafs and Hoffman to the Flames. :sarcasm:

is this ****ing clown ever right? he just throws as much random crap out there hoping something with eventually stick. he has no insiders at all. the guy's a fraud. and to think people actually pay him money. :shakehead:help:

He needs to throw **** out there to stay relevant. Don't blame Eklund, blame the people that actually follow the nitwit and take anything he says with any value.

Yak has been on the move for 3 years now. I assume that oilers management haven't come across a price they like which is a bit bizarre in how they valued Hall. Just sayin.

I actually can't understand why a team like Pittsburgh or Chicago aren't giving him a shot for the price the Oilers are apparently asking.

I mean, they have room on their top 6 (considering Kessel and Hagelin will play with Bonino next season) and Yakupov could really breakout if he plays with someone like Crosby, Malkin or Toews!

As a Habs fan, I'd be interested as we also have room on our top6... 2nd+Reway would be my offer.

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Yakupov
Radulov - Plekanec - Gallagher

would be crazy!!

Reway +2nd is a good offer for Yak.

Given the choice i would take Nichushkin.

That trade wasn't about how they valued Hall.

Every trade is about the asset(s) that you are giving up. Lemme tell you a quick story to illustrate this:my mom, bless her soul, goes to a casino maybe 2 times a month with the blue haired posse. She likes to tell me that she made $50, but upon questioning it turns out that she spent $100 to make that $50......

Well where does shipping him off at bargain basement prices get us? In what world is a late 2nd worth more than giving him another chance and hoping he becomes some semblance of the player we thought we were drafting?

People continually mention he may just need a change of scenery. I've said it before, trading Hall is the change of scenery Yak needed. He'll get opportunity on the ice, and he'll be more comfortable in the locker room with the absence of Hall. I predict a big turn around.

I been saying this since day 1 as well . I just feel Yakupov was isolated with Hall in the dressing room

Well, in a less condescending tone...the Oilers valued a 23 year old top pairing defenseman signed long-term far higher than a left-winger, regardless of how good he was.

Think of it as trading black beluga caviar for a gallon of drinking water on a deserted island if you're such a fan of analogies.

Yakupov wouldn't even report to NJ is my feeling.

pretty disappointing to hear from a fellow oiler fan, Yak's seriously passionate about playing in the NHL and absolutely loves the fans and city of edmonton. Only real pushback has been this spring/late winter when he came back from injury to play with Letestu instead of McDavid
