They can probably afford him because Bouchard is re-signing for 1.5M less than originally expected.

I just dont see how the money works. Let's assume that the cap is 92M next season (could be higher but this is a conservative amount with a larger increase the following year). The Oilers currently have 76.387M allocated for 15 players next year. Lets say that Bouchard comes in around 8x8 that would be 84.387 for 16 players. That would mean that the Oilers would have 7.613M remaining.

Management will want to try and have some money for wiggle room or to accrue cap during the year if possible. So I think realistically we have closer to 7M for 5 players. With that 7M we need to re-sign Emberson (2), Brown (2), Kapanen (1). We also need to replace Skinner and Perry for less than 1M each.

This doesn't even factor in the Oilers trying to acquire a top 4 RHD.

Nurse playing better has done wonders for Drai. The last 3 years , Mcdavid got the top pair and Drai got Nurse-Ceci. They couldn’t get him the puck, so his line would end up chasing. Nurse playing better plus the puck moving ability of Kulak and Stecher have put the puck in Draisaitl’s hands, which is where he’s dominant .
