A Leddy Hammer hybrid is Scott f***ing Niedermayer.

Haha. Yes and I am not saying that is what he will be. I ONLY compared his skating to Leddy. He has shown to be a good defender so far in college but like I said it is very, very early. He is a good prospect imo. Scott N was a almost generational level player, Kaiser is not that.

Anybody here remember 2009 when Minny drafted Leddy? Was there any particular reason he went as high as he did (16th overall)?

Because I'm looking at Kaiser on EP and his size is about the same to what Leddy's supposedly was at that time, they both had similar point totals playing high school hockey in Minnesota (34pts in 25 games for WK, 37 in 25 for NL), they both wore Cs, and they both have similarly excellent skating ability.

Now I'm not saying they are comparable, but on the surface, there are a lot of similarities between the two at around their draft. Did high school hockey in Minnesota become a lot less competitive over the years? Was Leddy's game that much more dynamic? There has to be something that made one guy be a mid 1st and the other a 3rd rounder, I just don't know enough about Leddy as a prospect to tell what it was.
Even though their points are similar there's a lot of questions a out Kaiser's offensive potential. I'm pretty sure Leddy was known to be strong carrying the puck and active with it.

With Kaiser it seems there is some more confidence with his D vs if he will take control of plays enough to be a D who can produce offense at the next level

Saw a little bit of Duluth’s game last night and Kaiser was already playing PK. They were running 7 d and he’s the youngest on the team too. Kid for sure has some tools.

I honestly think its scouts looking at the trends MN kids have taken. Especially now there’s so much pressure to get into the NHL as young as possible. It’s tough to compare two players 10 years apart but I remember leddy not standing out as much when he was at the U. I was surprised that he (leddy) left the gophers so soon tbh. If they develop Kaiser right, his potential is top 4 imo. UMD has been pumping out Dmen lately like mad, so he’s in good hands.

The Hawks pushed Leddy to leave as from what I know they were not big believers in Lucia’s ability to develop talent.

In the Athletic article, it said Kaiser is on the top-PP unit. If his offensive game comes around, he could be a better version of Nick Leddy. More defensive than Leddy was for sure. The offense is obviously the question mark but I don’t think he’s without offensive talent. He plays a more defensively responsible style. Even if he’s only a 30-ish point defenseman while playing good defense, that’s really valuable. I like his upside a lot. His skating is elite. There’s not a ton of prospects in our system with elite skating but him and Wyatt Kalynuk both have that. Big fan of him and the sky is the limit.

Yeah, Kaiser looks like legit. There's a lot to like: elite wheels, good D, hockey IQ. I'll take questions about offense all day, every day when it come to D men. Love how well he's taken the huge leap from HS to D1. Hawks might sign him after his soph year, instead of junior year.

I think he takes 3 years unless he lights it up offensively and is playing good D. I think he’s someone that could be a pretty big steal 3-4 years from now.

But wait, there's more...

I forgot how of a dbag JD Burke is. If he was not benefiting for it I would pay for access.

Kaiser looks good...again.

Anyone with access care to share what the premium article about the Blackhawks prospects from November?

Couldn't tell you if Burke was an ass or not, only know that he works for EP. I don't even follow him, just saw Mario Tirabassi retweeting these and figured I'd share the clips here.

I used to follow him but he was too much. Just a pure dbag.
Understood, I'm happy I follow guys who'd retweet the important shit he has to say. And if they don't post, I'd expect HF to pick up the slack.

If you're talking about the Athletic article from Powers, it doesn't say much more than already discussed here; elite skater, good stick work, needs to improve offensively. He's artistic (ceramics) and a multi-sport athlete. Most info comes from his HS coach M Manney.

Google gave me the following article which gives a bit more info on Kaiser himself. His HS coaches use an NHL skating comparison of Nick Jensen and a bit of Bret Hedican.
Andover's Wyatt Kaiser is a smooth-skating artist/defenseman |

Nah I am talking about the EP article. I have the athletic.

Back to Kaiser when the game is on the line UMD double shifted him in the OT. The kid has some great wheels and a ton of upside.

Kalynuk

Not a bad pipeline the Hawks have developed
