Cody's gimmick is basically to be as over the top and extra as possible and I think you either can't stand it or you find it endearing.

There isn't really a middle ground.

I believe it was rumored as to part of the reason he left AEW is he didn't want to be a heel. (He was getting boo'd at the time)
