WTF with Buffalo?

They are 35-37-6
They had streaks of 0-10-3 ( US thxgvg-xmas) and 0-5-1( in march)
The year that sucked the most was 22-23, they had an 8 game losing streak in November but finished the season with a 42-33-7 record. They also sucked at home that year but were a great road team (25-13-3)...they ended up missing the playoffs by 1 point.

The Sabres haven’t been the same since Dallas beat them in the cup.
Same goes for Vancouver losing to Boston.

No one knows. The owner doesn't trust any veteran hockey guy since he felt burned by Hockey Canada for Tim Murray and Jason Botterill recommendations, so just sitting here, it feels despite the failures, Adams is GM for life.

The coach is harder to peg down. Ruff probably has the job as long as he wants it, but only signed a 2 year deal.

Honestly, if we replace coach/GM, it would either be in-house (Karmanos GM, Seth Appert coach), or some crazy out-of-left-field Sabres alum (Pat Kaleta GM, Andrew Peters HC).

Seth Appert was the Amerks coach last year, with a bad pp; moved up to buf, who still has a bad pp, and the Amerks got better. So his rise in the org is hard to explain.
Kaleta as the GM would be one of the most hilarious things in sports

All is not lost in Buffalo this year. To wit:

1) They dumped Dylan Cozens. Two-way centers with size that score 31 goals as 22 year-olds aren't what's needed, obviously.

2) Found their solution in net for many years going forward in James Reimer.

3) Should get a good draft pick where they can take a slightly smallish forward prospect with excellent offensive upside but who will never really pan out to go with the multitude of exact similar players already in the system.

4) Finished ahead of Boston for the first time since about 2007.

5) Are in a good position to maybe deal one of those forward prospects and maybe throw-in something to get like an established real-life NHL #1 goalie like Saros or someone who is eminently available. They won't make that deal because Adams doesn't know what the hell is happening, but they are in good position to do so, nonetheless.

6) Even though they are very successful the Bills still beat the Sabres as all-around disappointments.

7) Got some great years out of Tuch, Thompson, Dahlin who must be frustrated out of their minds and thinking the are banging their heads against a brick wall year after year.

8) Extended Jason Zucker. If there is anything more valuable than a smallish forward prospect that just can't really deliver, it is vet who does the same.

9) Found some year-to-year consistency in that they play like a playoff team for 65 games but fall into the Black Hole Of Calcutta at least once a season for a fifteen-game stretch which pretty which dooms the rest of the year no matter what else happens.

As the optimist sabres fan a week ago I was looking forward to Hagens in a sabres uniform, as the realist sabres fan Welcome to Buffalo O'Brien!

Its extremely frustrating. Winning once Buffalo is out of the playoffs is a common theme.

Talent is not the issue in Buffalo, culture is, its a losing culture.
Pegulas are terrible owners. They only care about the Bills. Terry cares more about buying his nepo daughter a tennis major than the Sabres.

Spot on. Love your avatar btw. Irbe was so much fun to watch. He was like Hasek Jr, unorthodox way of playing but made it work

Actually it's s bit I n reverse

They boat sabres first. He's more if a hockey fan snd feels they gave been more involved. With the bills he's not involved in player decisions
Valid point.

All I'm sayin, the Pegulas bought the Sabres in 2011. The Sabres haven't made the playoffs since 2011. Coincidence, I think not.
