WTF with Buffalo?

They have a big Russian D who is doing well in the American league, perhaps they should just replace above mentioned player with aforementioned player.

They have two, Novikov has been a little bit slower development his 1st year per reports but neither are likely ready for next season.

Tage going to hit 50?
The fact he's on 50 watch with 7 power play goals is insane. Least PP goals in the top 20 goal scorers I believe except for Hagel who has 0.

If you wanna be cheeky, Tuch is on 40 watch too.

Buffalo should get a bye into the finals every year, they are clearly the best team post April.

From what we have seen, they might not make into the playoffs again while in Buffalo. That franchise is screwed up on so many levels, you have to feel bad for their fans.

Remember that their original youth movement was made up of guys like Meyers, GIrgensens, Griegorenko, Armia, Hodgeson, Pysyk, etc. They basically never stopped rebuilding ever since then. I don't know how it is logically possible, but they have literally rebuilt 4-5 times without anything to show for it.

Buffalo's record on the season is 35-26-3. Hey that's pretty decent. Points % would be enough for a wild card spot.

.... if you take away their 13 game losing streak. They really need to stop choking early in the year.

22-23 they lost 8 games in a row - all in regulation - before thanksgiving and that ended up costing them in the end in a season where they were otherwise right there.
23-24 they didn't win 3 games in a row until after the all-star break. Again, 2nd half of the season they were like a wild card team.

They need to hire a hypnotist in the 1st half or something.

Buffalo always starts to play better when you take out the pressure of the games

When they matter, they melt every year. When the season is gone they start playing better anf breathing hope into the system, if they can only avoid that x losing streak and keep the 2nd half game

To be fair those guys were merely the products of the Sabres starting to embrace the rebuild and were expected to be just complimentary pieces of the future contending team, along with a bunch of other young talent from that era such as Risto, Ennis and Myers. The actual rebuild was based around Eichel and to a lesser extent Reinhart, and it actually looked kinda promising until they finished dead last in the league again in 2018 to draft Dahlin, that was when people realized that there was really something rotten about the organization. To my counting they are in rebuild #2, which will turn into #3 when they decide to cut it with the current Dahlin-led core. Just like with Eichel, the Sabres looked like they were going to turn the page but then regressed and can't seem to recover. Even one failed rebuild like that would be seen as disastrous from the organizational perspective, two is simply unprecedented in the league history. I just don't think there are any other options right now though, yeah they are showing signs of good play lately but are still missing the playoffs by a mile. That's just unacceptable for a team with prime Dahlin leading the way.

You are right in saying that their first burn to the ground rebuild was based on Risto/Reinhart/Eichel. But they also had hoped to do a retool, even before 2014, with some of the young players that looked promising drafted mostly a couple years before and after 2010. That never worked out, which forced them into the 2013-15 full rebuild.

Actually, they are well into jettisoning the Dahlin era core by now. If you notice, guys like Nylander, Mittelstadt, Cozens, are also gone now, basically the most promising players from the Dahlin ear. Others from that time period like Ryan Johnson are questionable to make the NHL at all, or like Krebs who are only eeking out a marginal role in the league. Other than Dahlin himself, the promise of that entire corps of players is basically long gone.

And there are serious talks now of getting rid of Power and players around his age. Just absolutely insane, never heard of in this league until now.

Power isn’t being moved no matter how bad people want it to happen.

How do they do this every year? lmao
Because at the end of the season the top teams don't get anything out of playing bad teams, except maybe bad habits, and so regularly give teams like Buffalo no more than minimum effort. Teams will also rest top players in these games by keeping their minutes down and telling them to be careful not to injure themselves.

This team is such a joke. Theyre going to from a top 5, maybe 1st overall pick to somewhere in the 8-13 range, but congrats to Tage for padding his stats.

Padding his stats?

He should…try to miss?

Wtf is this?
A team stuck in no mans land on a winning streak that cost themselves potentially 10 draft spots for nothing. I understand the players still trying hard, but god this is awful to continue to watch. They need to improve, not win meaningless games right now in front of no fans.

They need to improve, not win hockey games!
Don't they know that losing more games for higher draft picks is a surefire path to success?

Based on historical data, it doesn't matter at all with this franchise.

Whichever picks they have, they will eventually ruin him and move him away. See their entire set of 2010s top pics:

  • 2010: Pysyk , virtually zero impact on the team's future
  • 2011: Armia , moved before much done for the team, career bottom 6
  • 2012: Griegorenko , never a full time NHL material
  • 2013: Ristoleinen , pretty decent for a few years, then flamed out
  • 2014: Reinhart , great while he was there, but eventually wanted out
  • 2015: Eichel, you know the story well
  • 2016: Nylander, almost a redux of Griegorenko
  • 2017: Mittelstadt, late bloomer, but still got moved because some haters among fans screamed really loudly
  • 2018: Dahlin, borderline generational player, really the only one that has stuck so far, not sure when he will be asking for a out also
  • 2019: Cozens, had one great season, but then continuously regresses, and eventually was moved
  • 2020: Quinn, seems to be following the foot steps of Risto and Cozens
  • 2021: Power, decent so far, not progressing as fast as hoped; and based on some in the media and among buffalo forum, he's next
  • 2022: Savoie, already gone, in record time (their turnover seems to be speeding up over time)
  • 2023: Benson, has played above expectations so far, but give it time???
  • 2024: Helenius, hasn't played a game yet.

Just absolutely mind boggling. Any top pick thrown to the franchise is likely to be a complete waste.

What if I told you he was moved for a 25 year old 50 point defensive center while he sits in the AHL under a point per game in his draft plus three as an undersized scoring winger? A prospect surpassed in his own system by Ostlund and Kulich from the same first round, Benson the next year and Helenius the next?

Maybe that’s why it “sped up his timing”

Because they got a good young player, at a position of need, for their fifth best offensive prospect?
