WTF with Buffalo?

idk bro leave us alone
Don't think i've seen such a short phrase make me laugh so hard.
Low key post of the year (in Sabreland anyways).

To the OP's questions: Playing down/up to their opponents level? That's the only thing I can think of.

But yes, here comes the 8th overall pick. Quinn is promising!!!!!11ELEVEN!!11!

Just give me my high dose of White Lotus style Lorazepam until they clinch a playoff spot. numb me.

Ive been meaning to start a thread around this but Id argue they dont have a 1C and havent had a 1C since Eichel. If you look at Thompson in terms of apples, defensively, and FO%, he is awful. He has an amazing shot though, so should be a LW parked in Ovi's office. You can put Team Canada's D out there and they'd still get shelled with opportunities aganst.

There is no argument... We 100% do not have a 1C. You can argue we don't even have a 2C.

Sabres are better than their record, but they are inconsistent. Adams rolling out the youngest roster in the league *again* was GM malpractice. Way too many guys 25 and under playing top-6 or top-4 roles. That is why they had a 14 game losing streak (that and Dahlin being out for most of it). You can't expect to win like that.

With that said there are a lot of elite finishers on the team: Thompson, Tuch, Peterka, Quinn (when he's hot), Kulich is trending that way. So sometimes they can really pile on the goals. They are 3rd in the league in 5v5 scoring.

We’ve heard about how Detroit has turned the corner, and yet the Sabres are 5 points back of them even with a 14 games losing streak this year…

The Sabres are a weird team. They have pure scorers who are incredibly streaky, and defense as well that sometimes plays very well, and other times just leaves their tender to dry.

Their goaltending is a problem all year, but they are running a heater with James Reimer of all people.

The one thing I will say - Dahlin deserves hart votes. He is playing some absolutely incredible hockey this year, and he has had 3-4 different partners through the season (elevating all of them). Most underrated player in the league this year for what he is doing

Team defense is poor and their mid-pairing defensemen are bad at defending. They have to outscore other teams and don't respond well to adversity.

They are near the top in 5v5 goal scoring

In that 0-10-3 streak. 6 of the regulation losses were one goal 3rd period games. They turn them into OT games and win 3 then they are in a WC spot

Dont be surprised if they compete next year

Some on goaltending, more on tesn defense.

They likely have some weird stats on
1. blowing 3rd period leads
2. Games having 2+ g leads and not coming out with 2 pts

PP is bottom 10.
PK isnt top 10.
3. Record when scoring first

First they were destroyed by the Flyers with 1/4 of the roster filled by career AHLers. And then they destroyed Washington, who are one of the best NHL teams this season, in a back-to-back game.
Got to stop with only looking at a small sample and look at the whole time the current core has been together. Sabres’ core is not good. Not too sure who’s been the centre of that core the longest, but he’s likely the part that needs to be rooted out if positive change is going to happen.

Of the current roster the only players who were part of the sabres in 21/22

Full season

Thompson -- his breakout sesson
Dahlin
Bryson

Part of season

Tuch- acquired from mud sesson Eichel trade
Krebs - also acquired from Eichel trade
Samuelsson- only played about half the sesson as a call up

Under 10 games

Power -' NCAA signing late sessonb
Peterka - called up for 2 g
Quinn - called up for 2g
UPL - called up for some games

Your change over of roster theory is seriously flawed.

They are one of the youngest teams in the league

Im not falling for it. The Sabres need a true 1C or theyre going nowhere. Norris maybe can be the 2C, but id argue 3C at this point until he shows consistency and health.

Buffalo is the definition of a team that sucks with any amount of pressure on them. When it’s off, they excel. It’s not hard to play well when you have nothing to lose.

Sabres are winless without Dahlin in the lineup (9 games). Goaltending is bad, but it could always be made better with good D. Sabres the entire season had a sub-par second pair, and a defensive liability 2nd line.

Nothing new here. They always look great once they are (basically) eliminated from the playoffs.

They've got to figure out how to show up in October. This s*** is getting sad.

Which of those players are core though? Top two D. Top two centres. Top winger. Goalie. The flaw isn’t in fans’ ideas. It’s in that core. Those are good players but they don’t mix. Imo they need a shakeup in that core.
