WTF with Buffalo?

As a Sens fan, this is nothing new. We watched one too many of these types of games in the past. As soon as the calendar switched, Sens would play like a world-beater when the games were no longer meaningful and the playoffs were out of reach.

So who was the hypnotist that convinced them they were eliminated at the beginning of March this year?

It's not just scores. Philadelphia is one of the worst NHL teams on paper (and on the ice), and Washington leads East, is the second best team of the league overall and already has more than 100 points.
You're making the case right here. It's a late season game in late March with two teams that have nothing to play for (Caps have East locked up pretty much...guess they could be fighting for the presidents).

This isn't the NFL. Teams don't spend time, at least any more than the plane flight, game planning for their opponents in the regular season. Top teams lose all the time and bottom teams win all the time, every year, forever and ever.

Last 5 games: Mcleod has 9 points and Quinn 8 points. If next year Quinn can finaly break out and get 30+ goals and Mcleod continue on his trajectory of being a really good 55/60 points 2c i think they might make the playoff.
Is Ruff still coaching this team next season?

First they were destroyed by the Flyers with 1/4 of the roster filled by career AHLers. And then they destroyed Washington, who are one of the best NHL teams this season, in a back-to-back game.
It happens.

When Edmonton was at its worst and Chicago at its best Edmonton laid the Hawks out 8-5.

I really feel bad for Buffalo. But at least y'all have Josh Allen

Imagine they get a Josh Allen equivalent on the Sabres. Only to trade him to the Knights.

Wait, did Allen become a self-centered d-bag who is shitty to staff and teammates while we weren't looking?

As for the premise of the thread, they beat the Jets in Winnipeg a few weeks ago. Over a longer horizon, they're still 6-9-1 in their last 16. Not exactly the LOLZ THEYS ONLY GOOD WITH NO PRESSURE bullshit narrative. They sucked with pressure, they sucked without pressure.

Also, Buffalo is something like 6-3 against the Caps over the last three years. It's not like Washington puts their best foot forward with them and it is often a track meet - Buffalo with 8, 7, 6, 5 goal wins and a 4-goal scored loss in those. Maybe look at why the Caps play them poorly.

1) Sabres are a young team and young teams can be erratic. Good one day, dreadful the next
2) Flyers are free of Tortorella so that maybe a bounce
3) Washington may be coasting getting ready for the playoffs

Sabres have scored more than New Jersey, Carolina, Florida, tied with Toronto (prior t TO's game tonight), Los Angeles, Edmonton, Minnesota and St. Louis. And they are dead last in the East.

The team with the better record is barely favored in any given regular season match-up. A two game sample is basically meaningless.

Why don't you, I dunno, watch the games and tell us what you think is up?

Just give the Sabres a few home games against the Leafs and that'll put them right back in the race

A few things here...

1.philly just fired therr coach so players are motivated yo impress their new coach.

Buffalo was up 3-2 in the second. Entered the 3rd down 4-3. They also had dahlin and Zucker out saturday. They both played in washington.

2. I started a thread on the Enigna the sabres ate on this page before the return from 4 nations.

Today they are 31-36-6 but they had 0-10-3 and a 0-5-1 streaks. Outsude of those two streaks they are 31-17-2. That's over a 100 pt pace. 6 in first sreak and 4 in second streak were 3rd period 1 g behind gamrs.

about 75% of their reg loses/ ties they either had a 3rd period lead, tied in 3rd, or down 1 n the 3rd

If you accept once you get to OT its a 50/50 on who gets the extra point-' if buffalo takes 6 of these regulation loss down 1g in the 3rd...and be tied and force overtime producing a 3-0-instead of 0-6-0 then they are tied with montreal for final WC spot.

The team is near the top in the league in 5v5 scoring

They are near the top in 1st period scoring

They are bottom 10 on PP. They 22/23 90+ pt sesson theh were in top 10.

I think they have lost 7 games when they had a 2+ goal lead and not end with 2 pts. most teams have a high Winnpct defending 2 goal leads

In many of thesr 1g deficit games they were 0 for # on the PP. Biggest one was st Calgary. They lost 3-2 on a latter 3rd goal and they went 0-6 on PP.

think they are the 2nd youngest team in the league. During the season from the opening day roster..

Cozens replace by norris +2
They trade Gilbert for younger JBD
Jokiharju is trsded for futures so ELCs are called up replacing him.
NAK is waved/ traded and Kozak is called up
Net is younger players.

Dont be surprised if this team competes next year and makes the playoffs

Last two weekend they had B2B Road games. They Lost on sat but won Sunday at WPG and WAS.

They mentioned going into saturday game LA had just 3 losses smat home...one of which was to buffalo.

you dont get to remove streaks from point paces especially when the sabres have had a long skid every single season the last 6 seasons.

It can explain things and say things are not as bad.

22/23 they had an 8 g losing streak when they had 5 of their starting 6 Dmen miss games ed herr sny game they missed 3 of 6.

23/24. Thus time 5 of their top 6 missed games st once and they had as losing skid. Their PP also fied.

24/25 they had that 0-10-3 stresk.

someone posted a dtst on hitting pists/ cross bars where buffalo had 4 players on it. Small margins matter

They do that every season lol. They could have used a top 5 pick in 2025....

Also the Caps are probably resting their best player. They already made the playoff, why do they need to go all in vs Buffalo?
They dressed their lineup. They started their #1.

Nobody goes "oh crap! My jerb's at stake!" like the Buffalo Sabres in late March/April every year. Submarining the team's draft pick is just a bonus.

The Caps have gone cold and their PP finds itself in a coma too, but a lot is on the Sabres for their annual resurgence once the games stop mattering. There's a reason people keep predicting they'll make the playoffs every fall, and it's recency bias. They end the season strong.
How are the Sabres and Capitals comparable again?

And that is with a disgustingly bad Power Play

It's the same thing with Quinn every year. He'll be injured or suck in october.

Wth 🤣 You're talking like Quinn is some 10 year veteran. 2 years ago was his rookie season. Every year he has been progressing and improving in Sabres system up until this year.

Talk about overreacting to a 23 year old having his first disappointing year and fans turning on him because a dumbass GM doesn't properly know how to construct a team.
