I think the difference is that with Mantha it was pure projection. If he could stay healthy and focused for a full season he could be a 30 goal, 70 point player. Kyrou's already done that though, and it's just a matter of getting him back to it. He's more like PLD, where he'd demonstrated high-end 2C play in Winnipeg and the Caps believed (correctly) they could get him back to that. With Kyrou though the signs pointing to a bounce back are so clear that everyone can see them, hence the price tag.
McMichael is better than Mantha. Connor could be a 30 goal scorer but it may or may not happen often. McMichael absolutely has a much better work ethic and isn't the headcase Mantha is. He's faster and more defensively responsible. We'll miss him in DC. There is a chance he takes his game to another level consistently and St Louis wins the trade.

I like the gamble for Washington. McMichael is a good/fine player, but the odds of him really coming back to bite Washington in the ass is pretty slim. There is inarguable upside with Kyrou.

At the end of the day, McMichael was never going to be more than our 6th most important forward next year (Wilson, A Protas, PLD, Leonard, Strome) and could have been as far down as 9th depending on if Ovi comes back or how high you are on Sourdif and I Protas. Kyrou certainly should be much higher than that. Is that upgrade worth 16oa and Gastrin (who is fine, and probably would go about where he went if you did a redraft, and was voted our 8th best prospect)? I think it absolutely is

Congrats on being completely uninformed lol. It's suggested that Binnington and Kyrou have turned down previous trades, not to mention the well publicized Parayko veto. The list of alumni who either stayed in town or moved back after retirement is long.

Holloway and Broberg signing extensions tells you all you need to know.

Truthfully a lot of the same could be said about Kyrou, moreso a younger Kyrou. But he was fairly streaky in his scoring aside from when Buch/Thomas/Kyrou were together.

But I'd imagine the inconsistencies with McMichael are much more pronounced. If someone could get Kyrou to simplify his game a bit (not try to make the hero play as much) and put him with skilled linemates you likely have a point per game player. If not you're probably going to have a streaky 60-70 point forward that needs deployment that is tilted towards the offensive side of the puck. I think a change of scenery is going to be good for him, you just need to expect a Fiala type of player where there's some frustration with his playstyle if things aren't rolling along.

I'm also interested to see if Washington gets him in a position to be a weapon on the PP. Blues never seemingly could figure that part out.
Seems like he scores a lot of goals between the dots going through all his goals the last few seasons. Washingtons PP has utilized a guy in the bumper there who gets tons of open one timer opportunities for quite some time. I wonder if that's a fit.

Krug enforced his NTC that kept the Blues from getting Sanheim too
