Dubas should have held out for more value. Eller is a good player at a premium position. Smart trade from the Capitals.

Only way this makes any sense at all is if Dubas desperately needed cap space to make a second trade.

If the fire sale is beginning, it might be scary how bad these Pens could get...

Great deal for the Caps tho.
Seeing the core have a chance in a playoff series was definitely the desired outcome going into the year

But anything besides mediocre. So I’m fine with the bolded

Good move for Washington. He won't cost much more than this at the deadline. Outside of injury, this is a can't lose move. If they are in a playoff position at the deadline, this move might be a part of that. If they aren't, they will get something back for him. Maybe it won't be a 3rd+5th, maybe it will be a bit more. Regardless, it's reasonably low risk for them.

The Penguins get cost certainty by getting picks now when they clearly have a lot of players to focus on moving.

Should have been a second, and would have been at the deadline, should have held onto him until then.

But keep going dubas, burn it all down.

I think a 3rd from Capitals is a high 3rd or in the middle. I can't see 2027 caps being a top team. We got a 5th added. I'd like a 2nd but it is what it is.
Yeah but don’t forget that 3rd rounder will be closer to a 4th because by 2027 we’ll have Atlanta, Houston, Kansas City, and Toronto2. — that’s an extra 12 players off the board by the time you get to the 3rd round.

2 mid round picks is about right for Eller. He is a good role player but certainly doesn't move the needle much at this point. Regardless, I can't even imagine where the Pens will be in 2027.
