That's an excellent RFA bridge deal for a young middle-six center who--after getting jerked around by Laviolette for a couple of seasons--had a great playoff run with Hershey in 2023 leading to last year's AHL championship. Which he (unsurprisingly) followed up with his first good season as an NHL regular in 2023-2024 under Spencer Carbery (who is good with the kids). He could develop into a very solid 3C, possibly even a decent 2C.

It also significantly increases his trade value for any team looking to possibly trade for a young but established middle-six center!

McMichael has been underwhelming IMO given his pedigree but this is a reasonable contract.

Underwhelming given his pedigree? He was drafted 25th in 2019. He's 19th in career points among that class (and that's despite being jerked around by Laviolette). His 18 goal performance this season is tied for the seventh most in a season by anyone in that draft class. The guys drafted immediately before and after him are Phil Tomasino and Jakob Pelletier, and I'd argue he's several steps in front of either of them. Vasili Podkolzin and Alex Turcotte are underwhelming given their pedigrees, McMichael is doing just fine.

Wow caps with an solid B+ off-season? Even with the massive risk in PLD, I'm extremely floored and happy to be a caps fan right now. Hope it all works out because some major salary being thrown around
