Confirmed Trade: [WSH/BUF] Alex Tuch (signs 8 years, $10.5M AAV) for David Kampf, 2027 3rd round pick

They try the St Louis Blues cup recipe

I kinda agree, but I don't think Washington has a Pietrangelo, ROR or Tarasenko like those teams had.

I just don't get why they're targeting 2 more complementary guys rather than aiming higher. I think they absolutely have/had the ammo to pull off Robertson, who would be a real difference maker on their team. But they're kinda just doubling down on Tuch and Kyrou, which feels like more of what they already have.

Some recent sign and trade or players rights trades. Just to give an idea of value.

Chris Tanev for a 7th and Max Ellis (already busted prospect)

Jake Guentzel for a 3rd

Mitch Marner for Nic Roy <— the biggest outlier

Darren Raddysh for a 5th

Feel free to suggest other I missed. Didn’t really include impending UFA prospects like Fox cause that’s kinda a separate thing but people can if they want

People need to start internalizing this: It's not COVID anymore.

The NHL cap was going up an average of $3 million per year prior to COVID. That mini era where everyone paid more than $13/hr to play pro hockey was considered overpaid is done.

It's now going up at an average of $7 million per year and once the new US TV deal is signed in 27-28, that rate is only going up. We'll be seeing $150 million cap by the 30's. $10 million for role players will be standard by then.

The only thing derailing it would be another worldwide pandemic or the AI overlords take over America by which point in time, you'll all be too busy calculating Pi to the 39th digit to be worried about Alex Tuch.
My comment was more geared towards the amount of teams with roster spots open + available cap space + looking to add a player who is 30. We get so hyper focused about rising cap but there's levels to this.

Many WSH fans wanted Robertson. My guess is DAL wanted some untouchable prospects (Cole, Leno, Cristall) and WSH has made it clear they aren't moving them. I'd rather have Tuch and Kyrou then Robertson alone. We needed 2 top-6 W for a while now.

Also, no we don't have players like them. Kyrou and Tuch are exactly the skillsets we've been needing.

You just had an 10.2 status RFA get $10 million last offseason coning off 65 points

I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest if he gets $80 million

But sign and trade I could see being like $9.3-$9.7 AAV or something like that.

Did you need 2 RWs though? I don't think Kyrou, Tuch or Wilson have ever played LW in the NHL.

I figure you'll have to try to pigeon-hole someone like Kyrou on LW with something like:

Protas-Strome-Tuch
Kyrou-PLD-Wilson
Protas-Sourdif-Leonard

But why are you trading that kind of haul for Kyrou just to play him on his off-wing?

This 100%.

He’s top UFA forward. The cap is climbing. All he needs is to find one, just one GM.

Dude “picked” a great FA class, and his agent isnt a fool.

We’ve been locked in this stagnant cap for long that our minds are warped to what player values will be climbing too.

I don't really get what Washington is trying to do here with trading a ton for Kyrou then also being the favorites to sign Tuch to a likely stupid contract. I guess they think their window is now with PLD, Chychrun, Thompson, Wilson and Strome all being 28-32, so they're adding 2 more guys in that age range?

Washington just feels like a team full of a bunch of supporting pieces, like if Jake Guentzel was your best player.
Ovie will be gone next year, so according to HFBoard's logic Tuch will become our overpaid big, older, slow guy. 😂
