Crazy that with Trouba refusing to go anywhere but NYC that the Jets were able to upgrade him to a better defenseman and add a prospect defenseman who projects to be better than him too.

I think the interesting thing about this trade is neither team is unhappy about it. Pionk was amazing for us last year he's really growing into a solid #2 for us.

He really is. I watched a lot of rangers game randomly this season. Pionk is much better. Maybe not his first year in Winnipeg but Pionk is by far our best defenseman last year.

Most of us figured he'd be in the $6.5m range on a 6+ year deal. Slight discount on that for only 4 years.

Agree. Trouba is a bit overpayed, but the contract would’ve been fine hadn’t the cap been flat.

I'm not sure Pionk is "better" than Trouba. The Jets have missed alot of what Trouba brought since he left. Trouba had some bite to his game I really liked.

Pionk at $5.8 million is likely better than Trouba at $8.0 million though.

Trouba and Pionk are completely different defencemen.

Trouba is a good two-way Defenceman who is big and tough.
Pionk is an elite offensive Defenceman who excels on the powerplay. He’s 13th in scoring for defenceman over the last two years and top 3 in p/60 on the powerplay >100 mins.

Quite happy with this Pionk contract as a Jets fan and I’m sure the Rangers like what Trouba brings.
