As a Jet fan I thought a #1 pick was a little high but I decided to reserve judgement until I see how he fit in with the Jets. So far I love what I'm seeing. Not only is Monahan playing very well, he may finally be the C that gets Ehlers and take him to the next level. If that happens then Monahan is worth his weight in gold. Also it looks like Monahan is very popular with his teammates so he has not hurt the Jets chemistry. If Monahan plays like this into the POs and helps the Jets go on a long PO run he is well worth a #1 pick. As long as he stays healthy right now his contract is a steal and Chevy has done it again. Right now Monahan IS the Jets 2nd C and deserves a big raise and term next season. After all he is only 29 years old.I agree with you, a lot of jets fans didn't like the trade initially but @ItWasJustified
He might be the Jets best playerSo, where's the 3rd line center, PP specialist that is a liability defensively?
We told you that the guy was smart and knew how to play hockey... plus he's good at creating scoring chances out of winning 50/50 puck battles, a skill that gonna serve him and his team well comes the PO.
He was worth a late 1st, end of story...
All true but availability is key. Team resigning him will be doing pace calculations (see last 3 seasons). As a Jet fan I thought a #1 pick was a little high but I decided to reserve judgement until I see how he fit in with the Jets. I hope the Habs resign him. He was a great fit with us. But maybe he doesn't want to play 3C or wing when Dach is back. All true but availability is key. Team resigning him will be doing pace calculations (see last 3 seasons).
Edmonton has more pressing needs than having Monahan as a 3cSo, any Jets fan mad about paying a first for him ?
Edmonton is so stupid not to have jumped on the opportunity to get him. Super cheap contract and the price was very reasonable. He's a fantastic versatile veteran player.

We have Gallagher you can have to round out top 9.Edmonton has more pressing needs than having Monahan as a 3c
I’m only upset because I was hoping that 1st would have been packaged together with pluses for a longer term solution to either RHD or a 2C.So, any Jets fan mad about paying a first for him ?

I took a lot of heat on here for posting those Monahan for first picks threads. I knew because he was on 55 point pace playing with Gallagher and Anderson. I said put him with good linemates you will see vintage Monahan. On cheap contract mind you.Credit where credit is due, Montreal fans were correct about him. He's been a great fit as a 2C on the team. If the Jets didn't grab him, another team surely would have. There'd probably be a lot of Jets fans kicking themselves now if they hadn't taken that deal.

Monahan was an important player for the Habs. When he played for us we are playing for almost 500. After he left, we lost 4/5 games in a row. In those lost, a couple of times we had the lead in the 3rd. With Monahan we probably would have won the trade. I watched a couple of Jets game lately and your team seemed to win some very close game now. It bodes well for the playoff when all games are played tight. As a Jet fan I thought a #1 pick was a little high but I decided to reserve judgement until I see how he fit in with the Jets. What I find frustrating with Anderson is that on a different team, with a different coach and playing system, he could be OK. Still likely overpaid, but not as useless as he's been recently. I can't help but wonder if Josh Anderson could be a fit in Philly, with his old coach who'd keep him on his toes.
Not sure what the laughing is about. Namestnikov is easily one of the best value for dollar players on that Jets team. But Namestnikov is better...![]()

Why was Monahan so ineffective and declining at the end of his Calgary days?
And how did he regain his effectiveness with Montreal, and now Winnipeg?
Injury? Like, for example, did he have nagging repetitive groin injuries that slowed him down, which eventually healed?
Well said; Anderson would be a better fit on a team with structured coaching and a finite number of set plays. This is about as good of a proof as you will get that some folks just dont fit in the philosophy of any given team. Oddly, this is a rarer case of that. Usually you will have a coach that wants his players to play exactly where he puts the X and Os on his board, and people who rely on their talent or instincts will suffer or be miserable.
MSL talks about the concept of "emmene ta game dans LA game" (bring your game in the game) and to not allow yourself to be typecast in a role. I think the example he gave was something like "it's not because you are a goon that you do other things". He gives his players broad outlines of what he wants them to accomplish, but encourages them to figure out how to do so using their own skill set. I think he is hoping to get his players to express themselves stylistically on the ice in other ways than they wouldnt have shown otherwise.
Anderson doesn't fit at all in that concept; he is an X or an O on a board of the type that crashes the net and gets a big assist when another X goes behind him to get the rebound. Once that rush is done, I rarely see him do anything noteworthy in the O zone.
he was injured, now he's not injured. he played through a torn labrum in Calgary in his last year there and had double hip surgery the offseason he was traded. His first year in Montreal was cut short because he had an ankle sprain he played on so he could play against Calgary and he tore his groin. We have him the entire season to rest and that is why he is back to his former level of play. His footspeed is gone but his skills and IQ are obvious. He's got plenty of effective years left as a 2C and he's not only better than Lindholm, he would have been a better pick up for every team that said he wouldn't make their top six. The numbers speak for themselves. Any two of his linemates combined for the whole season, which is about 7 guys, are still 5-10 points shy of Monahan in points. Why was Monahan so ineffective and declining at the end of his Calgary days?

Pretty much an identical effect with him on Montreal. The second he left it fell apart (as many of us in this thread said would happen)Winnipeg Jets powerplay before acquiring Sean Monahan: 15.7%. Winnipeg Jets powerplay after acquiring Sean Monahan: 31.3%
