Good for the Jets.
Nice contract to improve trade value.
Wonder how long until he's traded.

He'll be attractive at this price on the trade market and will likely be dealt once he shakes off the rust...wearing a Jet's uniform.

Trouba will get paid in 2 years time...and even can sign an extension this summer.

I don't understand why people think this contract is too low. Do people not understand the concept of bridge contracts?

This is HF. A lot of posters thought Chevy would have to give permission to other GMs to negotiate with Trouba. Most don't have a clue about the CBA or contracts.

How can a Jets fan cheer him on at home now knowing he simply doesn't want to play in Winnipeg? Has to be a strange thing.

Like at least with Drouin Tampa fans knew he asked for a trade because he wanted to be actually in the NHL.

I personally have no problem cheering for him as long as he gives 100%. Play your butt off, maximize your trade value, help us win and give us a good return. As someone who has moved to remote parts of Canada for work, I hope he plays out his time here and realizes how insignificant it is in the long run.

Chevy played it exactly right. This contract opens up pretty much every team as a potential trade partner, because the Jets can easily take back a bit of salary if necessary.

In the meantime, the Jets get back a highly motivated top-end defenseman, which is just what they need in the short term.

Home run for Chevy.

I wonder if a trade with Columbus for Ryan Murray has been discussed, especially with Jones out for the next few weeks. Pretty close in terms of contract term/salary too.

Werenski-Trouba
Johnson-Savard
Nutivaara-Prout

Then when Jones is back,

Werenski-Jones
Johnson-Trouba
Nutivaara-Savard

Perreault should be back just in time as well.

This is a test of leadership for the Jets.

the return Chevy will get now if he trades him will be INSANE

Exactly! This was all about amping up Trouba's trade value. Just about every team in the league is in play for a trade now. Who wouldn't want a young player of Trouba's caliber at $3M, and still 4 years of team control?

Who says Trouba won't show up and get suspended? All Trouba did was sign a contract that will allow him to play for an NHL team. He can still decide to ditch Winnipeg until they trade him. Would the Jets actually void that contract? Not a chance. He has more value signed at this amount. This doesn't prove Trouba lost, not yet.

Turris was traded about a month after his deal was signed. Trouba probably will be the same.

Here that? That's the sound of every team in the NHL trying to kick down Winnipeg's door to get to Trouba.

I'll cheer for his play. I'd still prefer he gets traded if he really doesn't want to be here, and him being signed this cheap for next year will assist in that.
