If he was overpaid by $2 mill and his cap hit is like $5.9 mill, then logically, the Jets should have been able to trade him with roughly 33%-45% retention to bring his cap charge down to $$3.3 to 4$ mill. As per capfriendly, they are eating $2.7 mill and then $1.7 mill in dead cap charges for him. And they have 3 full retention spots open. Schmidt only had a list of 10 No Trade list. Doing that would keep them at the same dead cap charge for this season and none the following season. Or they up it to the full 1/2 and eat $300K more in dead cap this season and save the $1.4 mill the following. He played well this year, it’s just a shame he’s overpaid by $2 million. Best locker room guy you’ll find, and a genuinely awesome human from what we’ve seen. All the best Schmidty.
Did he play on the right side at all this year? Back when he played for the Caps I think he played the right side occasionally. He played well this year, it’s just a shame he’s overpaid by $2 million. Depended who he played with, but when paired with a lefty I think he often slotted to right side.Did he play on the right side at all this year? Back when he played for the Caps I think he played the right side occasionally.

he got older, he's still a good 3rd pairing defensemen just overpaid and we need the money elsewhereWhat happened to him? From top guy in Vegas to being bought out.
Wut?Dude lost his mojo once they took away his special ass pricks
Wut?
I don't understand and am afraid to google "special ass pricks"
Yep OEL esk. With full understanding the Jets should do this, Schmidt is gonna be a sneaky signing for someone. In the right situation, he can be a nice role player still. Just wasn’t gonna be in Winnipeg.
