Let's make him our next Captain to bring the BEST out of him... oh wait !!!

Yes, just trade this under performer as soon as you can and for whatever you can get.

He isn't going to magically get better as he ages !!!
Patty Laine for Matthews straight up?

No , changes would be necessary, but that would be an incredibly stupid thing to do.

The worst move in franchise history.
How is anybody gonna equal Matthews production over his last 20 games? 3 goals where would you find that awesome level of production???

Oh wait, Hyman, Kapanen and Brown got 3 goals in their last 11 playoff games for 7 million not 14 million.

Marner has already refused to waive his NMC and is a free agent on July 1st.
I forgot about that, I guess they're going to get nothing for Marner or have to over pay him. Someone from the core four will be moved in one way or another.

I could neither fully endorse nor nix that suggestion without knowing what the return might look like. Although not being cognizant of any trade return should lead me closer to the camp of "no" since that might just be making a trade for the sake of it.

Certainly not right away, as that would be almost guaranteeing minimal return.

Especially if Marner leaves, I'd be willing to give Matty another season to (hopefully) heal and get back to prime form, and also see what he could do with better linemates, particularly in the playoffs.

He just added to it. So Keefer wasn’t the problem then?
If Mathew’s is hurt why do you have him on the PK?
Why is dump and chase not working? We constantly get outshot and lose the possession game. Berube style isn’t the solution . Why put Mathews on PK to block more shots if he is already hurt?
Berube got his old men and bigger D and do we punish anyone? Do you see opponents D shaking in their boots from our punishing forecheck?
Berube did say his style wears the opponents down. I haven’t seen it …have you?

If your up 2-0 and have a 2-0 in game 3 and now your all of a sudden down 3-2 in games ….Yes coaching has to take some blame
Berube didn't stop AM from fanning in literally everything and missing the net

He had the team playing the right way. Our top forwards can't score line they're paid to do when it matters

How many coaches do you need to get that?

Come in peace. Just wondering if Mathews is playing through an injury?

Yes, it was reported at the beginning of the year and they said he'd be managing it all year.

This board likes to forget it because calling him a loser and blaming him is easier.

Keep him and have him retire as a Leaf. Too many people are forgetting the John Ferguson Jr, Brian Burke, Dave Nonis era. 2006 - 2016,..... what would you rather have?

10 years of being out by the All Star Break? Ask Buffalo and Detroit, what do you think they'd want?

If you asked me in 2009 I'd trade the entire roster for an Auston Matthews & a Mitch Marner

Would I trade him? In a New York minute, Vegas goes out of the playoffs early, you just know heads are going to roll out there, they don’t accept losing like we do in Toronto, lots of interesting parts on that team. Oh and throw Mo into the deal, he’s unsalvageable at this point………

I’d wait to see if he ever gets healthy and can shoot again. If the guy could pot some goals I doubt anybody would want to move him, problem is, he obviously has some f***ed up injury. His wrist shot is non existent and that was his bread and butter.

Vegas runs their team like a small market business that must be nimble and reward results. This forces players to work hard and compete with all they have because they don't want to lose a good thing.

The Leaf organization is always full of bloated salaries with term and far too many NMCs. That's how you get comfortable losers. "Ah, win or lose, I'm not going anywhere".

Vegas has been a franchise for less than a decade and they already have a Cup and a Finals loss under their belt. It's insanity how the Leafs have been managed with almost 60 years of futility.

Look let's face it. We all hope they win the next two but the chances are very slim. They are as I said they were and they did a hell of a job down the stretch convincing me this might be different.

In no other series in which they have been down 3-2 did I assume they were finished. They look uninspired and Florida with their usual dirty play as well, appears driven to dominate this team. Leaf forwards have zero pushback.

It just felt like he was playing injured from pretty much the start of the season, did he hurt himself in the off season training?

What has he accomplished here?
