Would you want the leafs to trade Matthew’s if they lose next game?

His no trade is meaningless, Tre just has to say we’re moving on, he can’t force us to keep him, the look is ridiculous. Let it leak you’ve asked him to waive, do it right away because teams have TONS aif cap space this off season and take the best deal. He hasn’t lived up to his end here, no move my ass bud. You can’t win wirh this guy, whatever logic that applies to Mitch applies here, how many times does he have to do this for us to get it? For me, he’s problem number 1, a leaderless leader who doesn’t have the size excuse either.

They should never have given him the C. That was a terrible move. Here’s a guy with a history of cracking under pressure and they give him more pressure and weight to drag him down.

He’s just not that guy

I’d rather they have no captain at all. Tavares was a perfect pick and he should still be the C

Sometimes JT AM Da Real Deal sounds like he's making things up, but he speaks truth. The poster is known in hockey circles in Mississauga.

Da Real Deal says that Matthews has had back issues since he was a teen. I believe him. Therefore, I think he should be traded. Quit while you're ahead.

We 100% need a C back in a trade though. I keep hearing Byfield, but is he a C? I thought they turned him into a winger.

But I think you’re missing the point here. There is something really toxic here and there’s a reason why O’Reilly couldn’t get out of Toronto fast enough. He knew they’d never win.

I disagree, I’m glad they gave him the C, he has to be the leader, it was a put up move imo.

It would be a bad time to trade him because his value has lowered and you'd get less for him than if he were traded when he was playing well, If they don't win this series and it is still possible then I think that it's not Mathews that gets traded, it's Marner.

Do we know what is wrong with him? What if it comes out that he's played all season with an injury that needs surgery? A serious injury?

When Matthews is going good who is his Robin??? Marner!! What exactly has he done to help the Leafs cause this series?

You do not trade a scorer like Matthews. You have to have all facts. Did Washington trade Ovechkin when they lost all those seasons before winning the cup? They changed things around him and built an eventual winner.

There are many players that must go to allow to supplement the team with leaders, winners. Reilly and Marner should go before Matthews is traded. That is a potential 23 million to add players who want to win.

I don't know yet.

What I do think is, it's probably naive to think that the issues will be solved by letting go of the players who conveniently are UFAs.

I mean, yes, but is Treliving (the guy who gave him that contract) actually going to do it?

Probably not.

So, it comes down to making a management decision, which is in Pelly's hands now, before you consider the possible player issues and solutions.

What was Tre going to do at that moment? He just got here. It was no brainer there, maybe not at that money though.

Why didn’t he get surgery last May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, this January, February, March?

Why is it a mystery injury that can’t get worse with playing, but doesn’t improve with rest?

Why did he play for Team USA and get more hurt?

I bet Mathew’s can’t wait to waive his NMC Tre gave him and get away from Berube style playing to not to lose instead of playing to win.

I hope Willy waives too and Marner hits free Agency and waves goodbye to this old slow team that Tre built.

We waited to see how a Berube team responds and we witnessed it last night. There is no Billington saving Berube system in these playoffs

Fair questions. But we also know he went to Germany in November to see a unnamed specialists.

I find it unlikely that there's not some underlying physical issues. Even watching him this season he wasn't shooting like he had in the past, there's something mechanical going on

I wouldn't blame him for signing him, I just don't think he'll be the guy to make the changes now, given that he's attached to them now.

Personally, I don't think he was fit for the job given what happened in Calgary to begin with, but hey, when your Dad knows the owner, I guess it's an easy hire. #fallingupwards

What a complete load of crap.

Maybe instead of blaming goaltenders 100% of the time you should take a look at who is most responsible for this team's playoff failures when viewed in the aggregate for almost a decade now. Hint: Matthews is in the Top 2.

Yes he has to go. Sorry Matthews it's business and you've been able to get whatever you want our turn now.

Marner is gone. Matthews can return a few younger pieces. Like a Clarke and Byfield package. This team badly needs a retool with some youth especially on the blue line.

Reminder we do not have our first until 2028!!! Rebuilding is not happening. And we cannot run this team back another 3 years to avoid giving Boston another lottery pick.

He just added to it. So Keefer wasn’t the problem then?
If Mathew’s is hurt why do you have him on the PK?
Why is dump and chase not working? We constantly get outshot and lose the possession game. Berube style isn’t the solution . Why put Mathews on PK to block more shots if he is already hurt?
Berube got his old men and bigger D and do we punish anyone? Do you see opponents D shaking in their boots from our punishing forecheck?
Berube did say his style wears the opponents down. I haven’t seen it …have you?

If your up 2-0 and have a 2-0 in game 3 and now your all of a sudden down 3-2 in games ….Yes coaching has to take some blame

This is it. They have changed gm’s, coaches (3), depth forwards and defence, new goalie tandem every year, but you had the same core 4 and I’ll even throw in Morgan Reilly here as well as being the common denominator. Morgan Reilly is your highest paid D won’t win you a cup. He is as soft as the core 4.
