No issues with trading Matthews if the return is tangible. Not going to give him away for peanuts.
I’m a Bryan Hayes guy and this is not really exaggeration. Just like Mitchy and Austy managed to cough away Game 2 vs Florida in 2023 with their Mickey Mouse zone exits.
it's so true. All generations, boomers, millenials, and zoomers have checked out way more than in the past. I have noticed this first hand that there is a decrease in interest across the board. It's not just a generation thing but it's certainly also a generation thing. For the most part the only time I talk about the team to anyone or I see anyone else talking about the team anymore is on this site.
Nobody at my work talks about the Leafs. Nobody at the gym I go to talks about the Leafs. I never overhear casual conversations about the Leafs... except right about this time every year actually.
Right when they're on the brink of blowing it again is the only time you hear anyone talking about them anymore, and that only lasts for about a week, and then the joke isn't funny anymore again.
It's just sad.
That sequence was so embarrassing.
Mitch could have easily made a controlled zone exit but slowed down then fed a back pass to Matthews. Matthews then tries to showtime and flip the puck over the Panthers player but gets it stripped. These two players just can't consistently be trusted to make the smart, high % play and at any moment can go globetrotter and try some cute unnecessary play.
I can personally live with a team that doesn't have the "Talent" that this team does but plays with desperation. Ottawa played their hearts out and their Leader Chucky played very well even though he was injured (Groin)....that is something I can watch lose and accept much more than what we have going on here.I don't even care at this point. Do something remotely interesting or different and I'd be excited again
So much like Matthews in some ways, so little like him in others...For his first of the playoffs...
Apparently if we pick a few more Max Domi's that'll fix everything.I hate these options. Fearless leader?
Does the OP have a plan for when we lose 2 centers and possibly 1 RW this offseason?
This concept is list on a majority of Leaf Nation, they love their fancy toys even ehen said toys don’t work……The Leafs should do whatever is best for the crest on the front and not the name on the back.
Mentioning Mathews in the same breath as the sbove is a insult to thise mentikned above imo……It’s going to be really hard to follow this guy moving forward. Watching a guy try to keep pace with the Draisaitl’s and Mackinnon’s of the world and building a championship playoff pedigree to constantly resetting and lower expectations, open ended injury watch and massive doubt that he’s even a replacement level offensive forward when the games are big. And by big, first and second round playoffs. What a fall from grace.
The only way Matthews leaves is if he chooses to. If he were to choose to I would think only New York, Los Angeles, Miami or Las Vegas would be of interest to him.Trade him to Utah for Knies' buddy Cooley plus McBain, Kesselring and their 2025 1st.
It isn't every day a franchise gets the man who could beat the man (i.e. Ovechkin)...right?![]()
Certainly qualified on my previous posts saying the same re: approaching management. The only way Matthews leaves is if he chooses to. If he were to choose to I would think only New York, Los Angeles, Miami or Las Vegas would be of interest to him.
I doubt very much Utah would be on his radar.Certainly qualified on my previous posts saying the same re: approaching management.
It’s tough to wrap my head around him wanting to stay if Marner leaves.
I can see LA and Las Vegas as well.
Doan’s kid is there and it is the former Coyotes and it’s out west and perhaps he’d like a smaller market as well given he’s not entirely motivated to win one in a larger market. Not that big of a leap.I doubt very much Utah would be on his radar.
not making the playoffs would be a minor dropoffApparently if we pick a few more Max Domi's that'll fix everything.
We're losing the equivalent of a second line this year. There are not enough scoring free agents this year to make up for that. So we're GOING to go into next season playing third liners on the second line. And the fanbase seems to be trying to convince themselves this will only be a minor dropoff.
We'll basically be relying on Knies - Matthews - Nylander to give us 90% of our offense.
Bad take mate, not making the playoffs would be a minor dropoff
this team throughout the core 4 era failed, and now has a lower chance of winning the cup than the 09-10 leafs
losing in the first round consecutively this often doesn't happen. Getting ass blasted the two times you do squeak by doesn't happen.
Marner and Tavares are losers, they can go somewhere else and be even smaller pieces and win, but they aren't players who lead in any capacity.
Matthews likes the big city night life.Doan’s kid is there and it is the former Coyotes and it’s out west and perhaps he’d like a smaller market as well given he’s not entirely motivated to win one in a larger market. Not that big of a leap.
I mean we come on here and talk about other far fetched things, like the Leafs winning the cup.I find it funny that people are discussing this like it’s actually going to happen![]()

That was then, this is now, Mathews gas run out if rope to be considered a equal to that class if players imo…..Well there was a time when they were all coming up in the world and Matthews was in that class, winning a Hart, learning what it takes to win. And those guys matured and took off. And Matthews did whatever Matthews did.
Pretty sure what he likes can be found in every city, big or small.Matthews likes the big city night life.
