Would you want Demidov to join Laval in the playoffs?

Under the assumption that SKA Is eliminated and allows Demidov go, do you want Demidov to join the Rocket roster for an AHL playoff push with Roy, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Engstrom, Farrell, Mesar, etc. I wonder if Beck would be sent back down. I wonder if Rohrer can join. Anybody else?

The cons are the risk of injury, and maybe he needs to relax and train this summer.

It would be good for him to come over ASAP, to make sure he isn't stuck in Russia for some reason, but I wouldn't play him at this level after his long season. I don't think he will ever play a minute of AHL and it's fine like this. Don't want him getting injured by AHL goons.

For me it's because he is NHL ready and so playing him in playoff games in a meaningless league where he could get injured would be pointless since he's a walk-on, and probably a key player for next season.

KHL contracts go until May 31st so SKA will still own his rights when Laval will be in the playoffs so he won't play in the playoffs for Laval this year.

Yes but they can waive those rights and let him play. Which sure on the one hand seems unlikely given how petty they tend to be, but that pettiness often comes trying to exert pressure to re-sign. Once the KHL season is over that pressure is gone and preventing him from going over doesn't provide any sort of pressure to re-sign.

There's also the PR angle of wanting MTL (Hughes and Lecavalier) to say good things about SKA on how great their arena/program is. If they decide to be dicks about releasing Demidov we could respond by having Lecavalier "leak" that he actually was pretty unimpressed by their new arena, etc... MTL has an incentive to play nice while Demidov is still playing for them, but SKA wants nice things to be said about them long after Demidov leaves so they might think about playing nice.
