Wondering how the board is feeling after GM dismissal and the lack of success in the playoffs?
I’d guess that moving Matthews, Marner, etc might get a haul (Byfield? Picks).
Start fresh or go for broke?
I’m f***ing all over the place on this myself. One day I feel like Matthews is an elite 1c you simply can’t get rid of.
Next day I feel the team should go all Ontario and just keep Mitch and try to eventually sign McDavid.
One thing for certain, can’t afford three amigos plus Tavares.

Not scorched earth. Try to move Tavares, and Marner. Keep Matthews and Nylander. Use the return on Marner and Tavares to fill the holes this team has with their 22 million and compete.

Rebuild? The core, outside of Tavares, are all well under 30. These guys are the product of a successful rebuild. Matthews is the best player our franchise has had in 105+ years of existence. What could you possibly hope to accomplish in a rebuild? Lower salaries?

What a stupid poll. You made it impossible to vote YES, by adding a bunch of additional bullshit qualifiers.
Sorry. I added a trade a key guy and keep competing option. I wasn’t trying to be political and probably should have considered more than two options.

 They aren’t going to rebuild.
I wasn’t very good in my description. Tentative rebuild meant trade key guys and be a bubble team with a younger base. Wildcard hopefully and anything can happen.

IMO the are going to keep pushing forward and would have no interest in being a bubble team.

In the regular season? Maybe.

In the playoffs? Not even close.

No interest whatsoever in a rebuild. While I wouldn't want to entirely rule out the trading of a core player, I would like to see what the response is at this point to a different coach.

If we traded matthews, marner, and nylander we would probably still be a playoff team. $30 million is a lot of cap space plus a ton of futures and roster players coming back.

I think we can still be a playoff team that loses in the first round.

Full rebuild doesn't make sense right now. They have too many assets in their prime.

What they need is a quick retool by redistributing the cap and reassessing what counts as the core. Matthews is essentially untouchable unless he demands it cause you're not finding a franchise #1 C on the market.

They either have to convince Tavares to move on or trade Marner for a more compatible piece. You can look at Nylander but I doubt he nets the return they need.

To me, that ALL hinges on Matthews.

If he won’t give a verbal agreement about signing him on Day 1 of when he can sign, then you HAVE to deal him.

If you trade Matthews, you might as well go full rebuild. The haul for those 3 players with retention would be immense. Couple that with MLSE buying bad contracts and a couple of tank years. Cha Ching.

It actually might be the best course to be honest.

Interesting poll results so far. We could run back the core 4 next year for one last go but seems like overwhelming majority thus far is against it.

you know there's long been a rumour that Mitch and McDavid can't stand each other and their families don't get along. You won't get mcdavid here if Marner is a leaf

If the team isn’t going to be entertaining on the ice, might as well make it entertaining with trades. The only thing worse than losing is losing in increasingly boring ways.

A rebuild would be stupid considering the talent we have and their age. With that said, there definitely needs to be a culture change and an adjustment to our foundation

A re-tool is best, new GM, new coach and a core player dealt

Are you changing a player or are you changing the culture? That’s important.
In the example of Florida, it wasn’t just that Tkachuk plays a certain way or is skilled in that style, he changed the culture. Before that, Barkov and Huberdeau were that culture. All of a sudden, Tkachuk forces a new one.
Here, Matthews and Marner are the culture so be careful trading Nylander, it might not change what is needed.

They should but won't.

Enjoy a great regular season.

Root for another team inbthe playoffs when the Leafs are finished.

SShanny will be the GM and Pridham will be the AGM

Keefe will be the coach.

Shanny will be fired in 2 yrs to late

Trea hasn't been hired because he has told Shanny you can't build a playoff team this way

Matthews stays, for obvious reasons.

Nylander stays, he plays his f***ing heart out, he's a legit top line winger and will cost far less than Marner.

Marner needs to go. He's not willing to work hard and compete hard in the playoffs. He's a regular season performer, this guy was dying trying to score an empty net goal in game 82 to get 100, imagine if he tried that hard in the playoffs. But he won't because the playoffs are physical, guys hit him and he's scared of the physical play and demands 11M.

Try and find a hockey trade for Marner, a legitimate #1D.

The rebuild will begin when Matthews leaves which will be at the end of the upcoming season at the very latest. Personally, I'm trading him at the draft.
