Voted no, don't really need him on Habs.

But - the contract is mostly fine. Usually, it's not AAV but term that scares me with goalies. I like the 4 years
What’s your timeline if you’re Ottawa though? Ullmark is less likely to help them accomplish something positive in the next 4 years than a 1st round pick. He can play lights out this year and they’ll finish 10th or 11th in the East and get a worse pick.

I'm not a big believer in this Ottawa core/team. So I personally don't see them make playoffs, or do much in the next few years.

But - I still think they did a good thing by getting him. Lots of other teams could have used a legitimate top #1 goalie, as they are hard to get, so good on them for finding a way of doing so.

Say what you will about him as a goalie, but the fact that Ottawa dumped Korpisalo's salary in the trade that brought Ulmark back is a stroke of genius by Staios if we are being honest.

After last season, Ottawa could have been severely handicapped by Korpisalo and their ability to acquire a real #1 while he was also on the books.

With that being said, Ulmark looks incredibly elite. Not sure how badly other teams would need him, or how much of an upgrade he would be for them. But for Ottawa, it was a comically huge upgrade for them, and its a match made in heaven.

I think he'd be worth it on the Oilers but I can't see a scenario where his cap hit could fit.

I don't think he's worth sacrificing any of McDavid, Draisaitl or Bouchard for. RNH absolutely but would require him to waive his NMC

Even RNH,, you don't move him with his bargain AAV

It is contracts like Nurse, Kane and/or Arvidsson, Henrique, J. Skinner and Kulak that you need to move.

No, he's still a one hit wonder who won the Vezina. He's on a Andrew Hammond run right now.

You're joking right? AFAIK I'm the only one I have seen call Andrew Hammond a "flash in the pan" when he was on his run. Ullmark is literally one of the best goalies in the world and the stats prove it. Best SV% since 2019-20, among the best for GSAA, QS%, etc

I often end up asking myself if people really realize the things they say...

I don't think you have a full understanding of thee Oilers cap situation.

Nurse and Kane both have NMC and don't have any reason to waive them.

Draisaitl is getting a $5.5m salary increase next season and Bouchard is projected to increase ~$4-5m. That adds up to ~$10m.

The salary cap is due to increase by ~$4.5m next season. Jeff Skinner will already be off the books next season. Between the salary cap increase and his salary, we're still at a $2-3m defecit before anything else. You don't have any other salary over $1m coming off the books in the offseason.

Kulak has been a bargain at <$3m as a second pairing defenseman. You're not replacing him without downgrading.

Even if Arvidsson or Henrique get moved, which won't be easy without taking any salary back, you're doing it just to keep your head above water. Finding an extra
$5.5m in capspace to upgrade Skinner to Ullmark is not possible.

I never said it was going to be easy/possible but no way you can move any of the other contracts (Drai, McDavid, RNH, Hyman, Ekholm, all contracts you need to keep)

Would love to hear your outrageous scenario to avoid admitting that you hadn't fully thought this through. Do tell.

lol wtf? Do you think I only have this to do and I study every context and every cap situation for 32 teams? I simply listed the contracts that you should want to move to clear some space for a top goalie. No need to overthink, I never said it would be easy and yeah no idea if it's really possible as I don't care that much
