Olli Jokinen is probably the most missmanaged hockey player of all time. OJ had all the tools and was destined to become the first Scandinavian player to hit 1500 career points. But the Kings dropped the ball with his development big time and it didn't help that he was traded to a godawful Islanders team after that. Once he gt to Florida his confidence was totally gone and it took several years before he began to shine. People forget but Olli Jokinen at his very best had more even strength points than peak Sidney Crosby. Yeah, you read that right, he was that good.

But then the whole incident happened when Olli almost killed his teammate in Florida back in 2007-08 and it had a bad effect on Olli's numbers straight away. Olli never really recovered from that one and it seemed like teams saw Olli as a liability after that incident and he was passed around like a cart of cigarettes after that going from team to team and never really finding a place were he fit in. Nashville finally killed his career just like it did with Peter Forsberg and the world only got to see Olli reach half way of what should have been an all time great career.

So good the Flames acquired him twice. He's no Michael Stone though.

Does Jokinen still hold the record for most nhl games without a playoff appearance?

He'd definitely be a huge asset to this board... For creating memes, with his goofy face... Man I miss those days.

Lmao you ok Olli?

He was BAD when he got to Nashville. He was BAD that same season at the Leafs. His legs were done and he could not keep up; and threw hissy fits when he was justifiably put on the 4th line. Forsberg was almost PPG in Nashville but you gotta have a narrative I guess.

I will give that honour to Sundin. The guy was great and had no support. He made everyone around him much better.

I am a habs fan by the way.

Never was a big fan of his game, or even a moderate fan to be honest. He had some nice tools, no doubt about that, hence why he was picked so high in the first place, but he always struck me as a very singular or simplistic type of player without much nuance or depth to his game.

I think at best, at his peak, he could have been a good complementary scoring C on the second line, on a contending team. No way in hell you win a Stanley Cup with Jokinen as your 1C, or even come close. And the problem with Jokinen as a 2C on a contending team is that he really wasn't that great defensively, so it's not like I can see him doing a Nieuwendyk or Brind'Amour type of thing very effectively either.

As for people mentioning the fact that he put up big points on a bad team like Florida, I think that played in his favor to be honest because he got all the ice time and PP time in the world to do his thing without much external pressure. He would not have gotten those opportunities on a top level team. Jay Bouwmeester had three straight seasons in Florida where he scored 12, 15 & 15 goals, and after he left the sunshine state he never again scored more than 7 goals in a season.

It's him and Laine, right? The two most mismanaged and misunderstood geniuses in hockey history? Why are everyone so vehemently against these two players and try to sabotage their careers by any means necessary? Teammates, coaches, managers, pundits, scouts, fans, et cetera. Everyone. I don't get it, but it's such a damn shame.
